This kit is a good starter kit, and has lots of parts and items that can make different artwork. The kit is a little heavy, but still portable. Not made for heavy use or being knocked about. When they packed it, they didn't consider shipping, I think, because it has no bubble-wrap or tight pack of tissue on the top layer, which due to the extra space it has, allows the items to get loose and move around during shipping. This can cause damage to some items, especially the oil pastels (which are really just crayons). Ours arrived with virtually every pastel crayon broken, and some parts turned to dust. The exterior of the box had some of the crayon dust smeared on it. Rather than hassle over returns, and since most of the kit was intact, we decided to live with it, but it was far from receiving a new thing. It looked used.

I am a beginner painter, and initially couldn't decide on which medium to paint with, so bought this set as it has everything. I only used acrylics to make my first two paintings, and I am very happy with the quality of paint. The set comes with two canvas boards it wasn't clear from the description that these are 8 by 11 inches, so I had to buy canvas of the size I wanted after I opened the set. Additionally, I had to buy an extra tube of white paint. Because every tube is small, you ran out of white (and then black) very soon as these are two basic colors you mix into everything. And especially if you plan on painting big canvases, think about buying extra tubes of white and black.

The set also doesn't have all variety of brushes so I had to buy extra primarily because I had to paint a lot of small details and needed finer brushes. One more thing because I started with acrylics, I also had to buy a water mist bottle cause the set doesn't have one.

Overall, it is nice set for the beginners, has a lot of colors and allows you to mix and come with a variety of hues. The easel is nice and sturdy, allows you to convert your table into an artist station. And once you're done, it is very easy to keep stuff together and organized.

The wood box is sturdy and good. A few items had been dislodged from their compartments and scattered in the box, but this was easy to correct. The paints seem to be of good quality, although some of the oil pastels are grainy. One oil tube paint was mislabeled as Emerald Green, when it contained a brown paint. I have contacted Royal & Langnickel to request a replacement Emerald Green tube and am waiting for a response. It is great having a good selection of such a wide variety of media for myself and my granddaughters to experiment with in our art activities. It would have been good to have a small bottle of linseed oil included in the kit to go with the oils and oil pastels. Overall, though, I am very happy with the kit. I purchased it to replace a very inferior kit by Craz-I-Art and, though the price was double, the value is at least quadruple that of the Craz-I-Art kit.
