I'm a teacher of many years and have always encouraged beginners in pastel to use pro quality sticks, because drawings done with cheap pigments seem to lose something. It's probably a richness and depth of color that discourages students who always blame their own inadequacy instead of the material's. I usually recommend either Nu-Pastel or Rembrandt but am discouraged, especially with Rembrant's deteriorating quality ( at least 2 pieces in a set of 30 are unusable because of their hardness.) Not to mention that because I teach at a community college, there are always students on a frugal budget. I've recommended these Mungyos as an alternative for 3 quarters now, and find them quite a nice option.
My only complaint is with Jerry's, because even with a Prime account, these take a long time to arrive. Check and make sure that they will arrive when you need them before paying extra for premium shipping, as a student of mine had problems.

These are an excellent value and having 64 colors is a real plus; the color applies beautifully and the crayons have a very tactile smooth contact, not needing much pressure to get pure color from them. These are wonderful for students and for artists who travel or go out on location to paint.
