I bought this to teach myself to crochet, but the instructions in the book were not helpful. Yes, it teaches you the basic stitches, but the diagrams are not very clear and the examples of what you are making are very small and in black and white, so studying the stitches is out of the question. I had to learn the basic stitches from youtube. Further, the book assumes you already know how to read patterns and that you know to make turning rows. It also tells you nothing about yarn weights, etc. It was worth the money for the hooks and tools, but the book is useless.

I bought this as a goof, because I knit. The night I got it I opened it, grabbed some yarn and started to read. Within an hour I had made samples of all three of the basic stitches. I've tried to crochet before and got really frustrated and quit, and this book didn't make me do that.

My only complaint is that the photos are black and white. Well black, white and a pink color. Its a little annoying, but that's just me.

If you want to lean Crochet, this book is a must get! And it comes with the hooks!

My husband got me this for christmas. After learning a few basic stitches I was able to make a few scarves and am proudly almost done with my first blanket (although I didn't follow any pattern and actually started it by accident). I've had great fun learning to crochet and find it very relaxing! This product makes it easy to learn and I recommend it highly!

I bought this kit from WalMart. It has all the tools you need to get started, but the instructions themselves are a little confusing for a beginner. It's still a decent book, but I had to go to the internet a couple of times to find videos demonstrating some of the stitches. I'm now looking for a DVD to visually reinforce the book.
