I ordered this for a gift for my father who does a variety of art work with a variety of mediums I thought he would love it. The jury is still out as he is still experimenting....BUT there is a small pot of red ink/waxy stuff you use to 'stamp' some of your work after carve on your soapstone stick -and the fine print says that the red substance is POISONOUS!! What! Not only are my parents a little older they have 17 grandchildren/great grandchildren some as young as 9 months -very dangerous situation when he used to have them 'help' once in awhile to paint....not with this stuff!! I would have probably not ordered this product had I known this! I gave it 2 stars because it was what it said -but other than that I wouldn't have given it any stars because of the poison missing from the description of the item!

Great set of brushes for beginners, I bought it for my son to practice their calligraphy in their Chinese classes. Small but helps you to exercise your hand movements, even I use it, very interesting and beautiful art helps relieve stress. I recommend it.

This is one of those cheap, find-it-at-the-dollar-store types of products. The brushes are okay, but the ink is extremely cheap. The red ink for the stamp is too gooey to use properly and there is no seal at the bottom of the stone to use it with anyway. The black ink -the CORNERSTONE of sumi painting -is basically garbage. Go spend a few extra dollars and get high-quality products at an art store.

This little set has everything you need for starting Sumi-e or Chinese brush painting. It is way smaller than I expected but not lacking in quality. An excellent buy for the price!!
