okay, i think this is my first review of a product ever! but when i was looking around for sewing machines i found it very frustrating that there were not any reviews on some things so i thought that i would do my part =D

first of all, this machine is amazing!! before purchasing this, i was using an older White machine and it was electric...i was always having problems with the bobbin and threading and it not working etc. i have no had one problem since i first started using this machine (about 2 months ago now). i do need to add that this machine sees daily use...we cloth diaper in our family and i have been making an entire stash for my son and my soon to be daughter. this machine can sew through multiple layers of fabric (thick fabric) without a problem!

my favorites:

-no electricity needed for this machine to work

-super easy to thread

-the most amazing bobbin system i have ever used (SO easy)

-very strong, sturdy machine

this machine is mostly metal which is hard to come by now a days...there are some plastic parts but the pieces that matter are metal...i bought an old treadle sewing cabinet off of craigslist for about $40 and this fit into it just fine....i bought a singer sewing cabinet

you will need to purchase a belt separately and they are about $12, you can just google treadle belts and various sites will pop up, they are a standard length and you cut them down to size according to your cabinet and machine.

you wont regret this purchase!!

I live off of the grid, with a teeny tiny electrical system. Electricity is at a premium here, and this sewing machine is awesome! I love it; it's easy to use and so fun! It's a lot quieter than an electric machine, and because it has its own table, there is a lot less fuss setting it up. Great quality machine--I love it!

Double check with the merchant to make sure that the belt comes with the machine. :) They were really helpful when I sent them an e-mail letting them know that I didn't have a belt. I got lucky and found a cabinet with a belt (an old one), but when I told the company that it wasn't included, they got back to me right away and told me they'd ship one. I haven't received it yet, but I am sure that I will.

Update--never received belt. Quite unfortunate. 5 stars for the machine (it's awesome), and 1 star for poor customer service--not having received the belt.

This machine is nice. We were not able to use it right away as the treadle belt and the mounting screws were missing. Otherwise the machine is great.

I am already in the middle of making my second queen sized jeans quilt with this machine. When I make these quilts, I leave on pockets, belt loops, and even the leather tags on the waist. This machine has no problem sewing right through all of that. It seems very sturdy and well built. It has a great bobbin system, so easy to load and you can always see how much bobbin thread you have left. This is also the easiest, quickest machine to thread that I have had yet.

I already had an old Singer table, it was a hand me down from my mother-in-law, it is great to finally be able to use it the way it was intended. Getting the belt on was a bit tricky but then again, that was all new to me as I had never put on a belt before or even run a treadle machine. Like anything else, it is a learning process that gets easier once you have done it a couple times. If you have never done this yourself, it can be helpful to look up youtube videos on how to put the belt on and the best foot placement for running the treadle.

The machine did come with a belt but I went ahead and ordered extras to have on hand if I ever need them.

Yes, it is more "work" running a treadle machine than an electric, but that is one of the things I love about it the most. I love the self sufficiency and the total leg and lower back work it gives me while also being productive in making something myself. Who needs to waste money on gym memberships when you can do simply do something like this for yourself? It is a great feeling all the way around!

I have had this sewing machine for 8 years and use it a lot. As far as I am concerned this machine is perfect. I mounted it on my old singer treadle cabinet, and it was a perfect fit. I used the spare belts that I had for my old Singer, and haven't needed to buy a new belt (I still have a couple left). I sew our family clothes, quilts and other household items. It does so much more than just straight stitch, as most old treadles do. It's perfect for me.

We live off grid. We have a very small solar charger and battery that is adequate for charging laptop and cell phones, and not much else.

I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who loves to sew. It is a real joy to use.
