I'm not very experienced with colored pencils, so I can't comment too knowledgeably on their comparative quality. (You can read other reviews on that.) But even so, I can still say that I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.
As a set in itself, this is a beautiful box of colors! I love drawing the human figure and greatly enjoy working with skin tones, so this is a dream come true compared to most other sets which only give you a few browns and that overused "peach" color. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to render more realistic skin!
However, I should point something out. I bought this because I wanted to follow the tutorials and methods in Ann Kullberg's Colored Pencil Portraits, and if you intend to do the same then take note-
Kullberg said she uses Prismacolor, so I went on the Prismacolor site to have a look, and that's where I discovered that they sold this convenient Portrait set. Unfortunately, this does NOT mean that the set includes all the colors that she uses in her skin tone lessons. For example, this set doesn't contain Deco Pink and Mineral Orange (among others), which are colors that she frequently refers to. This means that you'd have to buy those colors open-stock, try to find substitutes, or leave them out of your portraits altogether.
The latter 2 options are unsettling to me because I'm a beginner at rendering with colored pencils, and want to follow her tutorials as closely as possible. And if you, like me, live in a country that doesn't sell Prismacolor, then buying those individual colors online is both troublesome and pricey.
But enough complaining! I do want to emphasize that this IS a GREAT set of colored pencils, and well worth the money. I'd recommend it not only to artists who want to create believable/realistic skin, but also to those who color "flat" (like in cartoons and manga) and just want a wider range of skin tones. :)

the quality of the colored pencils is amazing and the selection for the colors is spot on if you are going to use it for portraits. I would recommend this as an alternative to the larger sets.Item sent to me was not the new portrait color set of 24 colored pencils, they got the wrong picture here in the product page. This is the old version of the set that comes with 24 pieces (only 16 premier pencils + 3 verithin). It arrived fast, but the tin case looked like it was beat up with a bat. After doing some research I found there were 2 versions of this portrait set, but one says "assorted Colors" the other one says "24 pencils" this is the old vesion. Ask seller before you buy or make sure it does not say assorted in the description.
They better change the picture here to match the actual item.
