These were a great price, so I thought I would try them. Not my favorite. They do not blend as well as other cheap oil pastels, such as the ones sold at Walmart (seriously!) and the Pentel brands. That really surprised me. I really can't even say these would be great for practice, because good quality oil pastels blend better, and these are just too "dry." Go with Pentel for your cheap oil pastels, especially if you are working on your blending technique. They blend slightly better than crayons. Yeah.

I sometimes use linseed oil and brushes on my pastels, and I haven't tried it yet with these to see if it helps. I may keep them for that purpose if it pans out, but otherwise I will be passing these off on my kids.

The only reason I gave this set 3 stars is because 59 colors in a pack this cheap is pretty good.

I will update later.

I bought there kinds of oil pastel from Amazon to compare them. The other two were Sakura Cray-Pas Expressionist Oil Pastels, 50-Pack and Pentel Arts Oil Pastels, 50 Color Set (PHN-50). These have about half the stick volume of the Cray-Pas and the Pentels have a better color selection for your money. I would rank the last of the three sets.

I have never used oil pastels before so as I work with them, I may change by mind but I find that these pastels leave a lot of pieces behind. If I just do a light coat there is no problem but when I go over it enough to cover the area there are little pieces of the color let behind. I was using paper that said it was for oil pastels. The problem occurred less when I changed paper but it was still there.

Honest reviews on Loew-Cornell Oil Pastels, 60-Pack

When i open this set everything looked great all 59 colors are there and not broken in anyway. then i looked closer at the label on the oils only to realize that the names of 59 colors were'nt there on labels with company's name irked me abit. how am i suppose to know which colors in this set? there are so many shades of color that are'nt named and it's confusing, so that reason for the four stars. so i haven't use the set yet for that reason. the names of colors are printed on the back of the box. but what good that do me when they're not labeled right? i spend little time last night marking them myself what a pain, i guess i'm nice for giving this product four i was mad enough last night to deducted two stars to make it three. as i say before the set looks fine it's just that little mishap that gets one's blood to boil.
