Over the years I have used so many marker brands (Letraset, Copic, Prismacolor, etc.) and I always come back to Chartpak. I have Chartpak markers that are 20 years old, and they are still as juicy as the day I bought them. Yes, they do have the odor of xylene solvent, but worth the beautiful blocks of color you can lay down with them: solid, no streaks. They lay down color on just about any type of paper as easily as marker paper. I know trying to use other marker brands on absorbent sketch paper just dries out the tip and you have to wait to for the ink to flow back into the tip. Not Chartpak's tips: they just keep going. They also have a bigger reservoir barrel for more ink than most other brands. And, the selection of colors is great. I like mid-tone to less saturated colors a good deal, and Chartpak has plenty of them along with stronger ones. I usually use the markers for blocking color and then use pastel or colored pencil for more subtle shading, but if you need to quickly crank out a colored sketch these guys will do the job.
