I bought this as a gift to other. As read some reviews of that it is just good for looking so I have tested it. They all founction well to me. The ink stick and ink well are the real one. the brand of the ink stick is the one that I grown up with it in China. The brushs are not bad either. I think this is very good item for gift to other, starter. Also it is good for the real user who not use it all the time and not want to pay too much.

This struck me as the kind of thing sold to a tourist who want's a momento from the trip, but who never plans to use it. It's a toy dressed up as a real calligraphy set. A child might use it and enjoy it, but if they got interested in calligraphy, you'd have to almost immediately upgrade. The peices are all functional but barely so.
