I absolutely LOVE my new Faber-Castell Soft Pastels! They stay on the paper, especially if you use paper that is specified for pastels. The colors are breathtaking! The range of 72 different colors makes it so much easier to get that perfect shade you want for your artwork! The sticks are easy to hold and soft. But not so soft that they crumble!!

I was happy to find this on amazon. There was little selection in the local crafts store. And this same product was 40% more.

I was a bit worried because others mentioned breakage in transit. I didn't have a single break. :) It was in a box with plenty of bubble wrap, and came intact. Very pleased. Great deal.

This is a very nice starter set of affordable, pro-quality pastels. They are listed as soft pastels but are more on the semi-soft side. Softer than Nu-Pastels but more firm than Mount Vision or Unison. The are great for blocking in colors, they blend smoothly and you can quite effectively use the edges of broken pieces for fine lines/details. I am very pleased with the quality and handling of these pastels and the range of colors provided in this set make will make a worthy contribution to your pastel collection.

I'm just getting started with pastels and hadn't read much about different brands before impulsively picking up a box of these. I tried them and found them dusty and the colors not very brilliant. A quick comparison with some 20-year-old Rembrandt pastels (donated by a friend who had a box of remnants) was revealing--the Rembrandt brand lays down far more pigment, creates less dust, and is overall a superior product. These are just what I expected. I have ordered other pastels that were more like crayons than pastels. These are a better type of pastel. They apply very smoothly and are relatively easy to control. These are a bit messy (dusty) and you need to make sure you use paper made for pastel art. But The results I got were beautiful.
