I was thrilled to find that 3M came out with some black strips. I used these to mount speakers to my treadmill. I've used the 3M picture hanging strips since they came out. I first used them to hang framed certificates in my work cubicle. Then I finally got my act together and hung up a ton of framed photos in our hallway at home. This was SO much easier than using a hammer and nail. I used a small level to make sure that the frame was level and then just stuck it to the wall. (I NEED to use a level because other wise everything leans in one direction.) And if I accidentally stuck it a little bit uneven, as my husband is so willing to point out, once the adhesive has set, you can pull the picture off the wall and make your adjustments. Pulling the picture off the wall leaves the other part stuck on the wall, so it's just a matter of resnapping the pieces together.
