Initially I thought these grommets were metal, I guess I was tricked by the color "brushed silver". To my surprise they were PLASTIC, and I ordered 16 boxes of them! I was really upset, but they ended up working in the end. They are holding up my 18 foot curtains and you can hardly tell they are plastic from afar. They slide easily on the curtain rod as well, just be aware that they are plastic.

This particular color seems to have a defect and they all crack on the side of the grommet with ridges. I bought 800 of these grommets and have had to replace every one!! I used these in my business and it resulted in a lot of unhappy customers, not to mention a huge wasted expense. The only good news is that the other color of these grommets that I bought did not have this problem. But don't expect any refunds from the manufacturer because of this defect -I was charged an even higher price for another color that I had to buy to replace these defects for my customers.Do not buy these!

I made some curtains and used grommets by a different manufacturer and they worked great. The second time around, I purchaed Dritz grommets, not realizing that all grommets are NOT created equal. These broke and cracked and were nearly impossible to even get snapped together. Once I was able to get some to work, when I went to hang the curtains, they started popping off! They're a nightmare and I'll never purchase this brand again. I just wish I coudl remember the grommets I purchased the first time around, so that I could get more!Honest reviews on Dritz Curtain Grommets 1.56 Inch Inner Diameter (8 Pack) - in your
I was sewing a handbag and bought these grommets to use for the strap loops, as specified by the pattern maker. The grommet package includes a template that you can use to accurately measure and cut the hole for the grommet. I had no problem cutting the hole to the correct size and installing the grommet by inserting the bottom piece through the hole in the fabric and firmly snapping on the top piece. The pieces of the grommet that snap together have plastic teeth inside to grip the fabric. These grommets didn't work out for me though, because after a couple days of use, the weight of my handbag caused the fabric to pull out of the bottom of the grommet. Every day now I've been prying the grommet open with a small screwdriver and sticking the fabric back in, but now the fabric is getting stretched out around the hole, so I'm looking to replace these plastic grommets with metal ones that grip more tightly and permanently.Another problem I had with these grommets is that the black matte finish immediately came off where the webbed handles of my handbag rubbed against them, revealing a dull grayish color.
In conclusion, I think these grommets would be great for very light draperies or decorative applications where they don't have to hold a lot of weight. I'm sure I'll find an appropriate use for the ones I have left. But, I do a lot of sewing and have noticed that these specific grommets are widely recommended by fabric stores and pattern designers as being perfect for handbags because they can easily be installed without a grommet tool. Based on my experience, I don't think these grommets are a good fit for this purpose.
