This is a rich, juicy set of drawing tools. Everything about them sings excellence. The smooth and flowing color works beautifully. There is little to no grainy area unless intended.......These feel like the Porsche of pencils. Loving watercolor but wanting something portable, I tried these pencils after reading about many of the great companies. I believe I chose wisely...I have purchased other high quality brands but this is the best for me. I also like the Derwent and Cretacolor aqua pencils which are solid color without the casing......5 times the product for less than 2 times the price......One of the first things I look for in a pencil of any kind is how it handles in my hand and on the paper....I prefer a substantial weight. The Durer's weight is similar to most pencils but they handle so much better.......The Derwent and Cretacolor are heavier.....but they are comfortable to use and contain more pigment........I actually have sets of the Derwent also......they enable me to cover large spaces rapidly.......But these were definately the right place for me to start.......They are my primary "go to."Beautiful box of pencils. Now I wish I bought the entire set! Great set for beginners just starting out with watercolor pencils.
