I have lots of different brands of soft pastels. Some are firm, some are soft. These are very soft, about a 9 on a softness scale of 10. The light ones, as always, are the softest. The colors are intense and rich.

This box of half sizes is really a bargain as the sticks are really more like 2/3 size of a fll stick. It's a great way to get a real variety of colors. Later if you see you're using some faster than others you could buy individual full-sized sticks.

They're a pleasure to use but I recommend using a firmer, less expensive brand for blocking in a background. These will fill up the "tooth" fast.

Good variety of colors, pigment is rich, less filler. Lighter colors are a bit more fragile. Best to use with quality paper to fully appreciate the smooth application, and ability to layer colors.

Yours was the best price for this item, including getting it direct from the maker! I'd not used these pastels before and I found that when I took them out of their foam liner, some of them crumbled. Don't know if they suffered in the shipping or they are more crumbly that other pastels.
