I have started knitting after a lapse of 20 years. I discovered that yarn and Great Danes do not mix well. Anyway I ordered these after looking at the various types of needles available. It was quite a change from what I used to use. They arrived quickly and at first I had difficulty with them because they felt strange to me. They are a bit slippery for someone who is trying to re-learn a craft after so long. Once I got used to them they were fine. They are very light and the colors make a nice contrast to the yarn so it is easy to see your stitches. I am sure I will like them even better once I get back in the rhythm again. They appear to be well made and I actually dropped one on a brick floor and it didn't break so they seem to be sturdy enough for someone who tends to be a bit clumsy...like most beginners...I count myself one after so long a time.

After knitting with one of these needles for a few hours I notice the plastic tips have started to peal and have some ruff places in them. Just a few hours of use and I've already started to have this problem. The needles are extra light, but the texture isn't very smooth. I was knitting with some cheepo acrylic yarn and noticed the yarn would not slide easily from one needle to the other. I'm just not very happy with the Bates knitting needles as a brand so far.
