I bought one of these Studio Designs craft centers for my daughter as a Christmas gift. We looked at a number of different floor models at Hobby Lobby before finally deciding on this particular brand and model. We chose this model because it met all of our basic needs: it was sturdy, very functional, came with a stool, and it looked stylish and cool compared to the other offerings. The glass tabletop was also an important factor, since it allows us to mount a light underneath for tracing functionality.

Looking at my daughter happily drawing away at her new art table makes me feel like we made the right choice. I will, however, address a few issues that I had while building the craft center.

First off, the packaging was missing one of the bracket supports for the pencil/paint trays. It's not something that I could improvise a solution for, so I'll have to get in touch with the fine folks at Studio Designs and see if they can send me one. As it is, I only have three of the four trays attached at this point.

Second, the bracket supports for the trays and the pencil ledge need to be attached with Phillips head screws, and those bad boys were tough going at first. I highly recommend that you use an electric or battery operated screwdriver to do the job. It was impossible to get enough torque with a manual screwdriver; all I was doing was coring the screw heads. Once I switched over to my drill bit screwdriver, it was gravy.

Third, the drawer frame assembly is fairly flimsy and difficult to put together. I damaged one of the drawer frames while trying to notch them in place, but fortunately it wasn't a fatal blow. It's a small crack, hardly noticeable unless you look for it, but I know it's there and that kind of bugs me. Oh yeah, I also ran into the issue with the small Phillips head screws with the drawer assembly as well.

Overall, though, it's a win. My daughter is VERY happy with the table, and I have to admit that it's very well designed, with the exception of the drawer frame issue. I'll update the review after I resolve the problem with the missing bracket support.

01/04/2011 UPDATE: Got my replacement bracket in the mail today and couldn't be happier. Used the online replacement parts system at the Studio Designs website and was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to order the missing bracket. Two thumbs up for the good customer service with regards to this small problem. I'll upgrade the product to 4 1/2 stars. Still gotta dock 'em a half star for the frustration with the Phillips head screws and the wonky drawer frame. Overall, though, this is a solid recommend.

The table is pretty, but not that easy to put together. Plus we were missing many screws (five). The worst part is that you CANNOT PUT OVER 25 POUNDS of pressure on it. So does that mean OOPS, I broke the glass erasing, or cutting on a cutting board, or leaning when I draw ( bad habit). It's beautiful, but low to the ground unlike traditional drafting tables. Not for professionals. Nice to have stool already included, but I'd rather sit on a chair. We'll see how well it holds up after daily use. Took about 2 hours for two people to put it together. The tray in your lap and the side trays go are affixed by gravity, fulcrum, and a 1/4 turn of the screw. The holder only fits pencils and smaller items which means no mechanical pencils, erasers, pens. The screw was missing from the drawers, but they are OK.

I needed a cutting table for quilting and decided to check out drafting tables. I finally decided after reading the reviews to get this one, it is the perfect size for my cutting mat. Took about an hour to put together, I had help so it went together fast. I measured all the bolts and screws to make sure I got them in the right place, I think this saved a lot of time in the end. Good instructions and easy to follow. I like the fact that I will be able to trace things for my quilts with this glass top, that was one of the reasons I purchased this table. It is solid and feels very stable even on carpet. I have done some cutting on it already and I'm happy to say it's holding up to all my expectations. I put a piece of plywood under the stool as I have pretty thick carpet and that working out good. I'll come back and let you know how it is holding up after I've cut a few quilts on it.

Well I'm back to let you know I still love this table, I've used it to cut two quilts, made PJ's and a couple of blouses and a couple pairs of shorts for fishing this summer. Love to sew but love fly fishing more. It is so easy to use my rotary cutter on patterns with this table I use to cut on my bed with scissors and it took for ever to cut out patterns, what a blessing this table is, it has made pattern cutting so fast I really don't mind it anymore. :):):)

This is a great table, easy to put together and their customer service was amazing. I had a broken paint tray out of the box and they replaced it right away.

This desk is well built, and has many uses (Drafting/drawing table, lightbox, computer desk to name a few) there are only one thing I would change... The pencil ledge cuts into my wrist when i am using it flat, so i would make it detachable; other than that it is a great desk, and a good value.
