The glitter tends to come off and kind of muddies up the paints when you use them wet-on-wet or when you are trying to mix with other colors.
I think if one were to use them as a finisher (like iridescent medium) over already dried colors, you would be fine and it would lend a sparkle to your projects. However, as part of a normal palette, I don't think they work well.

I ordered these colors after quite a bit of online research and am pleased to share that they did not disappoint me when they arrived. The colors are beautiful and just gorgeous:).They are all very richly pigmented and the shimmer is almost sensuous. The lesser water one uses, the more intense they are and the intensity is luxurious.More water lets them be sheer and shimmery. The variety of colors and the color families included are very interesting,This makes them perfect for calligraphy too.The price is very reasonable.I do wish, though, that the shipping didn't cost me as much as the box itself:)!Best Deals for Yasutomo Pearlescent Watercolor Set, 21-Colors
These paints really sparkle! Unfortunately if anything brushes up against them when dried, a bit of the sparkles does come off, but it is not excessive. The colors are nice and rich as well.Honest reviews on Yasutomo Pearlescent Watercolor Set, 21-Colors
These watercolors definitely leave a beautiful sheen/shimmer to your watercolor piantings. I like to use them just as highlights. They dry nicely, with a lot of shine to them. Perfect, just what I was hoping for! A little will go a long way. Especially if you use like me, just for highlighting certain parts of the paintings. I have not done a whole painting using only these colors, I think that would be TOO much. These little color bricks/blocks/whatever you call them, are thin, there is probably not as much in each well as you might imagine. But like I said, a little goes a long way! Especially after it dries, you will see that what you thought was NOT nearly enough paint, will certainly dry to a spectacular shimmery shine that you wanted.
One thing to note is that although there was a slot for it at the front of the case when you open it, there is NOT a brush that comes with this set. You'll have to use your own brush. I make sure to use a small thin tipped one, and only wet the brick a little bit. Clean the brush between each color! These colors are just too darn pretty to get them all messed and mixed up with other colors. Take care of them, and this beautiful set of colors will last you for quite a long time. I gave it 5 stars- the price was just amazing.

(May 2012) I use a waterbrush pen (water is in the handle) and these paints to color stamped images for my handmade cards--the quality and strength of color is fantastic. There is a terrific shine that doesn't wipe off or smear. Its not sparkly, but definitely noticable--irridescent really is the best term. I not only recommend, I will *absolutely* be buying this set again.(July 2013) Update: I'm still using this set all the time and continue to love it. I recommend using an eyedropper to add a few drops of water to each cake a few minutes before you're ready to paint--this will absolutely produce a stronger shade and won't be sheer. You can also layer colors on top of each other, but I suggest letting one shade dry before adding the second. Lots of fun!
