For real writers, those of us who not only learned to type in required typing classes, but also slaved away at the Palmer Method in third grade and who LOVE cursive script. This is easily the biggest addition to my "INK PEN" addiction since I discovered cartridges in 6th grade long ago in Evanston, Illinois. If you are still enjoying the feel of the pen in hand, love colors or very vivid ink selections, or are even a serious calligrapher.....run for the 1.5MM and I promise you will end up with more than one. Mine have never leaked, dried up, scratched the paper (am I bringing back memories?) or delivered a puddle of ink when I least expected it. This package comes with everything you need to get going except black ink which comes 6 to a box. Order lots of these.

I practice calligraphy as a hobby, and I've had many different types of pen. This is the easiest one to use, right out of the package, after simple assembling (with instruction included in the package), the pen is ready to produce beautiful writing. Unlike other pens I bought before, this one doesn't need to be 'worked up', it doesn't have that scratchy feeling on the paper. I am loving this pen so much, I only bought the 2.4mm one, but I am going to buy the other two sizes too, wish they would sell them in a package.

And a bonus magic is that this pen writes in two width, a flat way and a side way, it's hard to explain, but get this pen and you will find out!!

Pilot provides consumers with a delightful series of calligraphy pens with the Parallel pens. All of the pens in the series have a wonderful shape, weight, and balance in the hand, and write wonderfully with no scratchiness and perfect ink flow. The pen also comes packed with goodies, which look like even more of gift when you consider the low price and the quality and reliability of these products.

This 3.8 mm size version puts down a very hearty line that's too large for everyday use, but there are other sizes in the series. They're relatively inexpensive compared with other calligraphy pens and are far superior to any other calligraphy pens I've tried (and trust me I've tried a lot). I'd even pick the Parallel line over Pelikan's (another legendary fountain pen brand which is my favorite pen brand overall) Script series, which are also calligraphy pens, but don't have the advantage of the double plate nib that the Parallels have.

The single drawback one that is a result of the design of calligraphy pens with this shape is that the cap cannot be posted on the end of the pen when you take it off to write.

Summary: If you're looking for high quality, low price, and trouble free calligraphy pens that will last, do yourself a favor and pick up some of the Pilot Parallel Pens.

Honest reviews on Pilot Parallel Pen 2-Color Calligraphy Pen Set, with Red and Blue

I dabble in calligraphy a bit. My left handed son wanted to try, but he had no success when he attempted to use a fountain pen. This pen works for him! I could have purchased a left handed fountain pen, but I didn't want to spend money on something that only he could use unless I was sure he would actually use it more than a few times.

I love this pen for me too! It writes nice and smoothly. I really like that you can also write with the corner of the nib for a fine line. To do the color mixing without a second pen use a small eye dropper to pick up ink from a cartridge and then touch the tip of the dropper to the the pen's nib. A tiny cork stopper will seal the ink cartridge between uses.

I have had no problem either with the ink drying in the nib between uses (7 + days) or with it taking an excessive amount of time to dry on paper, it has always been dry with in just a few minutes. I've used it with a sketch pad, card stock, and cheap printer paper.

This pen has been a lot of fun. I don't write with it everyday and as long as I let it rest horizontally, it hasn't clogged or leaked. I will say that I prefer the black and violet ink, but I have bought the 6mm as well and some of the color combinations have been nice (using both pens to "mix" ink).

I've quickly learned that it bleeds if you don't keep your pen moving or lift it as needed, and I have already gotten compliments on it in my normal handwriting (just writing normal with the nib angled 45 degrees).

Cleaning it completely when swapping colors takes a while, but lately I've just been popping the next cartridge in and letting the colors work themselves out hehe.

For someone serious about calligraphy, you won't be able to get ultra thin lines as you might with more expensive professional pens, but for a neat little pen to write with and play with colors, you just can't go too wrong at $10.
