We all have self-healing mats. I kept resisting this one. Boy, was I wrong! Love the magnetic aspect of this mat. Even when I am not measuring I have this mat out. I use the magnetic ruler to hold my paper (scrapbooking)in place while adding embellishments. Invaluable when making cards and correctly aligning lettering or add-ons. This is definitely worth the price of admission!!

OK I have to be honest I first thought to get this self healing mat because it was purple. The Magnetic was a great plus though. I know It was designed for scrap-booking, but like i said it is purple, I do mostly fabric crafts and it does heal rather well. The magnetic ruler is great for a straight edge and holding the thinner fabrics in place. Although I did find that it can not "heal" as well when I use the Fiskars Rotary Cutter on thicker fabric (push down harder). It was not "made" for cloth cutting, knowing that I am ok with the nicks it does keep. Note: keep iron away from this, it will start to bubble and separate.

Cons:

-Has this weird "toxic" smell when you open up the package. It gives me a headache.

-One of the reviewers also had the "toxic" smell that gave him a headache.

-A bit on the heavy side.

-The ruler is weird. The measurements aren't like regular rulers. Everything is doubled, so there are 24 tick marks instead of 16 like a regular ruler should have.
