This is such a fun pillow/ottoman to make. I'm a confident beginning seamstress and have made 3 now, one of the large size for our livingroom and two of the smaller ones in a rainbow design for my kiddos. I'm a fan of Amy Butler as it is and the large ottoman was my first completed project from one of her patterns. The instructions are very clear and there were marks on the pattern to help ensure you line up and sew your pieces more accurately. I only have one complaint and that is that the pattern piece for the panels is only half the total panel and you do have to tape 2 pieces together to get it. While the taping wasn't a problem tracing half and then another half for each panel was annoying. An easy fix though is to trace and cut out the entire panel from freezer paper and use that as your pattern thus saving your pattern piece from wear and tear and getting more use from it later. The 24" version serves as a great casual ottoman and the smaller 18" is still large for a 'pillow' and works best as a mini ottoman or a child's ottoman.

Okay , I have made five of these so far. I LOVE the end result both out of wool and cotton ( trying linen next ! ). TIP: Add fabric scraps to the stuffing to give it more weight and to feel more substantial. I also am adding a 1/4 cup 1/2 cup of lavender to the stuffing as well. The only reason this is not a five star review is because ... I bought a Pattern ! not a book, not a how to, I purchased a full pattern and expected to find just that and I didn't. You will have to make your own full size pattern from the half pattern given.
Do NOT try and do what Amy tells you to do, Draw out the pattern on taped together card stock, There is much less of a chance of messing up!
I understand that the artist has to make money and pay for the printing and the paper, I get it BUT when I purchase a single pattern I expect it to be in FULL !
Also, Amy doesn't mention it but you don't have to have every panel the same or just two different fabrics, Try each panel a different/coordinating fabric! I was shocked to see that it wasn't given as an option or idea.
Besides the frustration of having to make your full sized pattern This is a very very good project for advanced beginners and it produces a great product.
