I have many calligraphy pens using ink well, fountain pens and disposable pens. I have bought calligraphy pens for similar price in the past and I must say that I was terribly disappointed in these. They are like markers with tips that SHOULD be like a calligraphy pen, but they are more like children's markers which you can buy at Walmart. Also when I wrote with then the tips have some stray edges that write really messy and weird. I was hoping that I could get the same effect as a regular fountain calligraphy pen set with these, but it seems that I could have used some Crayola markers instead.

The beauty of these pens is that when you dampen or wet the paper, the line spreads out into beautiful color.Water color artists use them this way.
I emailed Speedball several times asking if the pen is archival and lightfast. There was no response.
Finally, I asked tech support at one of the stores and was told that the ink is acid free, but is dye based so
the color will fade in time.
This is unfortunate, because the the qualities of the pen are unique to markers, although there are crayons and
pencils that react with water.

These are NOT extra-fine point, or even fine point, they are medium point, and not great quality either, very mediocre. Not quite worth sending back but definitely I won't be buying this brand again. I always keep a set of calligraphy pens around for note cards and addressing envelopes for personal mail. The first thing I noticed about these Elegant Writers is that the caps do not uniformly fit well. Some are so defective as to easily knock off sitting in your pencil/pen cup. Then I noticed the real problem. These pens feel so light that I wondered how they could have any ink in them? Now I believe there is barely any! I had placed the set along with the Staedtler duo calligraphy pens I had gotten in a large pencil holder cup. The tops kept knocking off the Elegant Writers and the first day, two went dry! Then I was working on a project using another Elegant Writer. I set the pen down because I was alternating pens and paint. When I picked it up within minutes, it had gone dry! I have barely had this set a week and three quarters of them are dry! Finally, and the reason I am taking time to write, one went dry as I paused with it in my hand!!!I have never written a product review before but this product was a waste of money!
IN A NUTSHELL: 1) Caps don't stay on
2) They arrive with barely any ink in them
3) They go dry within minutes when uncapped (even mid project holding it in your hand!).
