I love to color... okay, I know a woman of my advancing years isn't supposed to do that, but there it is. I find it relaxing and freeing. It's kind of like meditating. Okay, so enough with the metaphysical aspects of coloring. I wanted some pencils of higher quality than the ones I send to elementary school with the kids. I wanted it in a compact self-contained durable package. I wanted my very own (hide it from the kids!) set of pencils. It's pretty good, but didn't quite fill all those expectations. The container is flimsy and doesn't seal. So the minute you pick it up, your pencils and pastels are all over the floor. Ugh. I do like the way the pencils feel and the colors they produce. I like that there's a sharpener inside and slots to hold the pencils. If only the lid actually stayed closed, I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. If you have a kid, who loves art and is careful with their supplies, this would be a good starter kit. Mine will probably end up all jumbled up in a plastic container in one of the kids' rooms and me still wishing for my very own set of beautiful pencils.

I got these for my son who has a knack for art. He used them to design the yearbook cover for his middle school. He won the contest and so his design will be used for the cover. He likes the quality. I may try more expensive ones in the future just to compare, since my son's art capability is worth it. But I won't spend 3 times more for a 10% improvement.

My artsy granddaughter loved this set. I put it in her Easter basket and because they left for the beach that afternoon, she had it in the car with her to use during the trip. I am not artistic in drawing, etc., so I can't vouch for the quality of the materials, but my 11-year old granddaughter thought it wonderful and so did her mother. That was good enough for me.
