These are markers and they feel like markers. A marker can write in ways that an ink pen can't so I'm not sure these are good for beginners who seriously want to learn calligraphy. That's like comparing apples to oranges. I have experience with ink pens doing calligraphy and these took some patience and practice for me to use then I was hooked.

What I love about these pens is they are handy, not messy, don't leak, last a long time and are perfect for traveling, quick jobs, journaling and making a wide variety of marks by twisting and turning, or using them straight. Add a light wash and I could get some nice simple shading. What they are is a thin and medium, dual chisel tip marker which I've even used for quick sketches of buildings. They are easier to use than a brush tip marker for the straight-line-challenged. They are fun for exploring different lettering styles not just cursive or italic and that made them great for travel journaling. I was very disappointed when my local art store stopped carrying them because they became a basic in my kit that I can't replace. I wish individual and more colors were available (1 star).

I've traveled with these pens and they stood up to heavy use (abuse) well. I discovered that even if the cap didn't get closed tightly (there's an extra click to listen for) they didn't instantly dry out or leak. That makes them well worth the price. I tried the Copic markers and they are a very different type of marker, probably better ink, but I found the Copics dried out much faster and I don't want to mess with refilling that often.

I don't know very much about calligraphy, but I do know about Zig and their products so I went for it. Each end has a calligraphy marker thing. They're not a "traditional" calligraphy pen, they're more marker-ish but I really enjoy learning on them, I don't think I will ever get an actual calligraphy pen. One end has 2.0 mm line, and the other end has 5.0 mm line.

These would have been nice but my purchase was old or something.

The wide pointed side of markers did a great job very nice. But the reverse side, the finer nibs, were disappointing

and partially dried up so were basically useless.

Since I had mailed one of these sets out as a little Xmas present,

it was embarrassing when I used my own set recently and discovered this.

Great 2-ended (2.0/5.0 mm) markers glide across the page effortlessly. Love the range of colors (pink, red, blue, green, brown, black, yellow, violet). Colors are pigment rich, archival fade and water proof. As promised, markers do not bleed, which is great for different types of paper. I use mine to address cards and art work. Bought an extra set for work, gift to would-be calligraphers and recommend them over other markers I've tried. Quality and worth the price, especially if you buy the 8 pack.
