I have several sets of soft pastels and pastel pencils. I like to do fine detailed work.

These sticks are harder than my handmade pastels and therefor useful for doing details like fur, hair, or eyes when painting human or pet portraits or grass and tree trunks when doing landscapes. I can get a very hard line by breaking them, in fact, much better than my pencils. I like the broad array of colors as well. This has become my "go-to" box. I think the value is very good, but I would also invest in a softer, creamier brand to supplement this set.

very usefull. Many colours, small size. I sugest not to mix so many and various colours,in one box. I prefers more variations of less colours. For example, a box with variations of browns, greens and skin colours and obviously b&w. Another box with blues, greys, and another with more fantasy colours.

As I have written elsewhere... I have put together a set of these brushes (2, 4, 6, 10 & 20) that I use to apply a cobalt/gerstley borate mix (Floyd blue stain) and mason stain/gerstley borate mixes on bisqued porcelain: They're almost perfectly suited to it! They hold quite a lot of material. The point is superb. Flow is superb. Action is excellent. With them I can create beautiful and *long* sharp lines (depending upon technique, of course; they are also well suited to creating a beautiful mess if that's what you're going for!) Worth every penny! (especially at these prices)

I have to admit, I bought a size 0 brush first because they don't look small in the picture. The size 0 would be good for painting the Lords Prayer on the head of a pin. The size 4 brush is just right. It will paint a line six inches long easily without reloading paint, probably longer if you load it up. It paints a very thin line easily which I would guess is about the thickness of a 0.5mm pencil lead. The price is right, and the handle and ferrule are up to snuff. I'm happy with the purchase, and would buy another if I wore this one out.

These are markers and they feel like markers. A marker can write in ways that an ink pen can't so I'm not sure these are good for beginners who seriously want to learn calligraphy. That's like comparing apples to oranges. I have experience with ink pens doing calligraphy and these took some patience and practice for me to use then I was hooked.

What I love about these pens is they are handy, not messy, don't leak, last a long time and are perfect for traveling, quick jobs, journaling and making a wide variety of marks by twisting and turning, or using them straight. Add a light wash and I could get some nice simple shading. What they are is a thin and medium, dual chisel tip marker which I've even used for quick sketches of buildings. They are easier to use than a brush tip marker for the straight-line-challenged. They are fun for exploring different lettering styles not just cursive or italic and that made them great for travel journaling. I was very disappointed when my local art store stopped carrying them because they became a basic in my kit that I can't replace. I wish individual and more colors were available (1 star).

I've traveled with these pens and they stood up to heavy use (abuse) well. I discovered that even if the cap didn't get closed tightly (there's an extra click to listen for) they didn't instantly dry out or leak. That makes them well worth the price. I tried the Copic markers and they are a very different type of marker, probably better ink, but I found the Copics dried out much faster and I don't want to mess with refilling that often.

I don't know very much about calligraphy, but I do know about Zig and their products so I went for it. Each end has a calligraphy marker thing. They're not a "traditional" calligraphy pen, they're more marker-ish but I really enjoy learning on them, I don't think I will ever get an actual calligraphy pen. One end has 2.0 mm line, and the other end has 5.0 mm line.

These would have been nice but my purchase was old or something.

The wide pointed side of markers did a great job very nice. But the reverse side, the finer nibs, were disappointing

and partially dried up so were basically useless.

Since I had mailed one of these sets out as a little Xmas present,

it was embarrassing when I used my own set recently and discovered this.

Great 2-ended (2.0/5.0 mm) markers glide across the page effortlessly. Love the range of colors (pink, red, blue, green, brown, black, yellow, violet). Colors are pigment rich, archival fade and water proof. As promised, markers do not bleed, which is great for different types of paper. I use mine to address cards and art work. Bought an extra set for work, gift to would-be calligraphers and recommend them over other markers I've tried. Quality and worth the price, especially if you buy the 8 pack.

I got these from my older sister and i really must say that these are fantastic pens! i've begun to use them for everything, not just my drawings, which now looks really really good because of them. I've been using them for homework, notes, doodles, you name it! I really like how they come in sizes from the really thick to the really thin 0.1.

the only bad points is that they sometimes are a little faltering if i use them too much for a really long period of time, but that's easily fixed by capping it and swinging it gently so the ink flows towards the tip of the pen, so in a way, that's not really a bad point.

the case is also useful, since it can become a little stand, which i really like.

I bought these about a year ago so I can outline my cartoon drawings. They are awesome! I love using the 0.3, but it started dying on me, so now I'm using the 0.5. I have had an older set of these for probably 10 years. I just used them for a few drafting projects in that time, but it is impressive that they did not dry out between intermittant uses. They have a steel nib that is long enough to work with parallel rules and triangles. The porous material that applies the ink does not deform like a felt tip and maintained line width throughout my use. I was trained as an architectural draftsman 40 years ago and used a lot of fancy pens to ink drawings. These are all I use now.

I don't draw or sketch, but borrowed this pen from a co-worker. I have a rough note-taking writing style; my writing can be characterized as somewhat abrupt and violent; I make a lot of sharp movements, and tend to press somewhat hard when writing fast.

The tip of the pen was destroyed by the third page of notes; it became more like a permanent marker. I can see how it would be good for drawing in some situations, or maybe writing something akin to calligraphy; for day-to-day writing applications, I'll take a gel pen any day.

There's only one thing I didn't like about this art kit and that's the lid. It doesn't snap shut in any way and so it opens very easily. Not too good for when you're on the go. But otherwise it's a good kit at a great price and I appreciate the ability to carry around everything in it's tin. Keeps things very neat and organized!

As a novice painter in her 20s who wanted to pick up a new hobby, I found this to be a great little starter kit. You can make a huge array of colours with the selection provided, and the brushes that come with it are decent (I don't really like one of them, the flattish one, but that's probably just because I don't know how to use it yet). The only real disappointment I had was that the cap for the red won't tighten all the way it just keeps turning and turning without end but it's not a huge problem, as it's still tight enough that the paint hasn't dried out.

I recently used it for a light jersey knit cotton fabric to hem the neckline and armholes of a childen's size tank top t-shirt. It's a little tricky to use, but one you get the hang of it it looks really good. Liked the idea of sewing my own rolled hems. However it did not have much instruction with it.. Played with it for several days before getting it to do what I wanted. Good product. Long wearing metal. Needs more instruction. Check Janome website or get Janome book on using presser feet.

I bought this (and the brother narrow hem foot which is the same thing so stay away from that too imo)and tried to use it on anything. It will only work on lightweight fabrics and even then the stitching is hard to look uniform. The stitches look wonky and the hem is incredibly small (5mm or less). I decided to just go for it and get the "distinctive" rolled hem foot set which has seven different and USEFUL sized hems (like 1/4" and 5/8", etc.)and give you a chance to keep those hems clean and professional looking. It is $50 for the set, but i am so much happier to have hemming feet that actually work!

Works great with my Babylock DenimPro (circa 1994?), on several fabrics (even flannel) and using zig-zag. Didn't work on straight stitch since I can't position the needle on my machine to far left or far right, center only, which causes the stitch to miss the roll entirely -but that's a problem with my machine, not the foot.
