The 'artist set' came quickly and as described from Amazon. That is why I gave it two stars; however, the quality just isn't there.

I found several concerns to keep in mind:

*contents spill out when opening the wood box

*charcoal pencils break too easy when sketching and sharpening

*estimated costs of similar items without the wood box and instruction booklet is very low

*12 colored pencils can be purchased for $1

*sketchbook is small

I really enjoy finding items that qualify for free shipping but this item is clearly overpriced.

'Bought this for my 11-year-old granddaughter so she could get a taste of line-drawing with charcoal pencils. The "kit" is perfect for introducing a youngster (or an adult!) to art projects.

this is a gift but by the looks of it, it really is good for beginners. i really liked how it has all the basic tools and a sketch pad plus an instruction booklet. the case feels durable to protect everything inside. i would buy one for myself, unfortunately they are out of stock. makes a great gift.

This was a perfect gift for my budding 9 year old artist. She spends hours at her desk drawing with this kit and has absolutely no complaints about it. On the advice of another review, I did buy a sketch book to compliment it and am glad I did as the one provided was gone very quickly.

Everything in the box worked great, and the product was the only thing that I WAS concerned with. The nice little box that came with it was warped so badly that there was a deep bend or molding problem with the box causing a large gap in the construction on the front. I would also like to add that it affected the working material in no way.
