These are non-inline hooks which means the shape may be a little odd for people who've worked exclusively with Susan Bates inline hooks. The hook is a little bigger than the shaft of the hook with a tapered end and a deep v-throat to hold the stitch.

The sizes are listed on the package as L= 9 mm P= 10 mm and Q= 15.75mm Boye hooks generally run a little large. In this case, the L, which is the single aluminum hook in the set is marked on the hook itself say being L8.00mm. So I recommend swatching if gauge is important.

The other two hooks, the P and the Q are molded plastic, the seam is fairly smooth and unlikely to snag most yarns. They are hollow but thick enough plastic to be fairly sturdy and very light weight. The aluminum L hook has a thumb rest, the P and Q don't. The P and Q are also unmarked, so you might want to label them.

Given the cost of this set, they are great for quick stitch projects. They work well with multiple strands of worsted, or bulky yarns. The Q is a good choice for fabric crocheted baskets as well.

I really like this set. It has really been difficult to find larger hooks made by Boye . I like the smooth hook at the top. The only thing I don't like is, the bigger hooks sometimes don't have the size marked on them. I use a black magic marker and, on the bottom somewhere or on the side at the bottom, I write the size. These are great for projects that use bulky yarn or if you are using two or three strands at a time. Thanks for a great deal.

This is great set of hooks. All the sizes I need for my bulky yarn projects. I just finished making a shawl using the Q hook. I'm sure I'll be using the other hooks soon.

The hooks themselves work OK. The The L is a metal hook that is marked and has a thumb rest. The other 2 are plastic hooks without thumb rests. Neither of the plastic hooks are marked with the size so you must either label them somehow or keep the package. The M hook is shorter than the a standard Boye hook. I would not have purchased these had I known they weren't labeled.

I now have the complete set of crochet hooks. I didn't know that thisxsize hook existed. Makes me wonder if there are more that I don't have.
