I was very much impressed with these! they are a great value, and I have had great success with them so far. They are smooth, the tips are rounded so if you want a very pointed tip these wont be for you, otherwise you could certainly make them pointier since they are bamboo... I am very pleased they will suit me very well, I had just wished they had a longer needle set, as I purchased another brand in the 7" and they don't have the carbonized finish and I don't like them quite as much.Best Deals for BambooMN 5" Double Point Bamboo Knitting Needles - 15 sizes 2mm
These needles are working perfectly for me. I usually use metal but I wanted to try wood because 1) sometimes my fingers get cold when I use metal needles and 2) the clickety-clack of metal needles can get annoying...very annoying. They do have rounded tips so sometimes it's a little difficult to pick up stitches if you're a tight knitter like myself (I guess my stress comes out it in my knitting, hehe). I haven't tried using the smaller sizes yet (US0-4) because I'm a little worried about them breaking, again because of my tight knitting. My needles were smooth and free of splinters. I did use a little wax paper when I used grabby yarn, but I had to do that with my Clover straight needles too. Also, you get 5 needles per set which is awesome! Depending on my project, sometimes it's easier to divide my stitches over 4 needles instead of 3. The dpns sold at my local craft stores are only sold in sets of 4, are metal, and are 7 inches long (which I feel is a little too long for most of my projects). Lastly, I would suggest buying/making a case for them to keep them organized.
If you're looking for bamboo dpns in a short length and want 5 needles per set, these needles are definitely worth a try.
