Perfect for a beginner making a t-shirt quilt. Rotary cutter cuts through material easily. I use the safety lock every time I put the rotary cutter down. Mat size (12x18 inches) and ruler size (3x18 inches) is fine for cutting t-shirts.

Cutting 4 layers of light weight quilting material was very difficult for me. I do have arthritis in my hands, so this may not be the experience other users will have. I have switched to a larger blade and found it to be much easier to use. Also, the mat doesn't seem to recover as well as it might. My expectation may be unrealistic since this is my first time quilting. The ruler seems fine.
