Surprisingly sturdy. Reused for multiple coats of heavy oil-based finish. Didn't fall apart, leave residue or deform considerably. Not a professional. Will buy again, maybe in 10 years.

-The Jen foam brushes cost three bucks more for a 48 pack.

-Jen brushes are made in the USA, these Darice brushes are made in China.

-Jen's have a fairly solid wood handle, much more comfy than Darice's paper thin plastic.

-The internal plastic support on these travels only half-way up the foam, so not only do you have a floppy mess of an ineffective brush, but 5 minutes into use the internal support will tear thru the foam:< The internal support on the Jen brush travels almost to the very tip, and even after heavy use stays in it's place:)

-The foam itself on these has a "glitteriness" and a structure that poorly holds whatever liquid you're asking it to hold. The Jen brushes have a high quality foam with a powdery appearance.

-The foam head on the Darice brush is lazily attached at whatever random angle, the head on the Jen brush is attached perfectly aligned to the handle.

To close out comparing the two, I'll tell you the few beefs I have with the Jen foam brushes. First, the wood handles have two raised edges that seem like they could potentially annoy some. Second, because they last so long, I wish there was a hole in the handle to hang them by. Finally, where the the foam and wood handle meet, there's a very subtle hump, which doesn't affect use but just looks a bit weird;)

Oh, and compared to both of these the brushes you can get at HD or OSH are substantially more expensive, made in China, and about the same quality as the Darice brush, save for the fact that they have a wood handle (a very cheap and light wood).

Finally finally, Lowes sells Wooster brand foam brushes, which are about three bucks each, and are ever so slightly nicer than the Jen brushes, also made in the US. I think the Wooster's are the only ones that explicitly state they can be used with shellac and varnish.

These are every bit as good as the foam brushes I can buy locally. I like to keep them around for touch up or small painting or staining projects. Obviously no foam brush will stand up to prolonged use on a rough surface and these perform just like any other foam brush I have purchased. They are inexpensive and great for quick project and you don't have to worry about cleaning them when you are done.

Honest reviews on Darice 1-Inch Foam Brush Value pack, 50-Piece

This is a great product for the price. I need throw-away brushes for when I use polyurethane and don't want to use paint thinner for clean up. I've used them for messy glue products as well as touch up paint jobs! These would be great for art classes for children or even VBS (Vacation Bible School) any group project! They aren't too flimsy so they could be used for a bit before they would deteriorate! One of the best purchases I've made in a while!
