I've had these for a couple of weeks now and I've experimented with them on several projects. The joins and tips are smooth and easy on the yarn that I knit with -no catching or snagging with several different kinds of real wool. The swiveling cord is nice and the tips are just the right length for this man with large hands though they are not sharply pointed and may prove difficult for intricate stitch work, like P3togTBL.

I haven't had any problems with them coming unscrewed yet. I imagine that using a small piece of rubber glove or some other gripping material (like the little one that comes with the Boye set) would tighten the join when you first put them together but the swiveling cord seems to eliminate any issues with coming unscrewed for me. I actually read another review on a knitting blog where the knitter couldn't get her tips unscrewed and had to resort to the gripper to get the tips off the cords so your mileage may vary.

I have several sets of interchangeables (Boye, Knit Picks, Denise) and all of them that use the screw-in method for attaching the tips to the cords seem to have some problem with unscrewing when you get to the end of a heavy sweater or other large, heavy project that places stress on the join while knitting. That may be more about the laws of physics than anything and perhaps the Addi Clicks would be more reliable for knitters whose style produces frequent unscrewing.

I would say that this is a good, middle of the range product and the size range of the tips and the swiveling, very thin cords are great. I wish they had some kind of end caps though so they could be used as stitch holders or single points; all my other interchangeable sets have this option but not these. Wonder why?

I bought a cheaper set first, but was disappointed. Of the five sets available under $180, there were only two that had 16" sets included. I'd already tried and disliked the other one. Let me explain about the 16" set. A knitter needs 16" needles to make hats. As such, this isn't a length you can skip. I calculated that, to have a full set of 16" needles, you can expect to spend around $50. Think about that when comparing prices of other combo sets.

The tips have tight threads, and connect securely to the wires. I haven't used my set extensively yet, but so far have not had any kind of trouble. The bamboo has a beautiful texture; it's not smooth like metal, meaning no slipping, yet isn't coarse.

The case is very nice, and clearly leather. It still has that pleasant scent after more than a few months owning it. The case is zippered all the way around.

The set comes with a full set of needles, so unless you use gigantic needles, you're not going to need to buy any more.

I wholeheartedly recommend!

Best Deals for Clover Interchangeable Circular Knitting Needles "Takumi Combo" Set

I love my Clover Takumi Combo! I love using Clover Takumi's. So when the interchangeable set came out I just *had* to get it. There are some cons but I just love using Takumi's so this works for me.

PROS:

nice range in needle sizes! US3-15

thin cords for ease of stitch movement

short needles to accommodate shorter circular knitting

case has secure bands to hold needles tightly

CONS:

needles are a bit rough

needles unscrew every once in a while

no stopper & connector (I wonder if you can use other brands' stopper/connector)

Honest reviews on Clover Interchangeable Circular Knitting Needles "Takumi Combo" Set

When I got these, I immediately transferred a project I was working on to the needles. They are very smooth and the flexible cable is a bonus. I have an elderly Boye NeedleMaster and have purchased other bamboo needles as well. The quality of the needles is the best I have used. I noticed another user remarked that they unscrew themselves as you knit. Clover includes some very specific instructions on how to attach the needles to the cable. If you follow these instructions, the needles do not unscrew. Also, Clover has designed the cables so that an properly attached cable spins inside its housing, so there is no twisting.

My only concern is the longevity of the bamboo and the availability of replacement parts. Since this is a new product, I will hope that these become available later.

Update: As suspected, the Addi Lace Clicks although slightly more expensive and with fewer sizes, are well worth it. They are so smooth and incredibly light (even lighter than the bamboo!). If you are considering an interchangeable set and are willing to buy at this price, I strongly suggest you stop by your local yarn store and try both to see the difference!

I purchased these with a 50% off coupon from Michael's, so I paid $85 instead of the $169.99 MSRP. Even so, after 3 weeks of working a few project on these, I am returning these and buying addi Turbo Click Interchangeable Needle Set instead.

Pros:

Interchangeable kits are incredibly handy for working projects that require different gauges. I was able to quickly switch gauges by just changing the needle tips. Also, since I am a tight knitter, I opted to use a smaller needle on the left in order to help speed up my knitting.

The needles themselves were of adequate quality but not nearly as nice as the fixed circulars I have purchased as single items from Takumi. Specifically, they are not as smooth.

Cons:

The joins seem weak and as other reviews have pointed out, you need to really tighten them periodically in order to ensure the cable does not come undone. This does not seem to bode well for the lifespan of the product.

The needles are sufficiently smooth, but as noted above, not nearly as smooth as my individually packaged Takumi purchases. I found the quality of the needle to be much lower than I expected from this manufacturer.

The work has trouble moving along the join, so I had to frequently push my work to avoid stretching/tightness.

It is at the same price point as the Addi Click Turbos, which have rave reviews regarding smoothness and the join. Even at the reduced price that I paid, I have decided that it is worth the extra money to go ahead and purchase the best in the market, as purported by many experienced knitters. If you are willing to spend $150 on Amazon for this set, you should just opt to spend the extra $19 to get a set of Addis.

Happy knitting!
