I LOVE the Liquitex acrylic inksI have them in a variety of traditional colors and I've been using them constantly in my paintings so thought I'd go ahead and splurge and get the metallics. I actually have other brands of metallic acrylic inks (Daler Rowney) and they are really vibrant and very metallic, so I assumed the Liquitex would be similar.

Unfortunately, the Metallics are not really that "metallic". There's definitely a metallic/sparkly sheen to them, but they are sort of oddly goopy in consistency, so you'll get a clump of metallic in one part of the paint, and then just a gold sheen and then another clump of metallic, even when the acrylic ink is THOROUGHLY mixed. I guess the particles aren't fine enough, and the binder in them is not tinted enough. They also don't "flow" wellI usually drip acrylic ink on the canvas and then tilt the canvas to get it moving before I work it in with my brushes, but this sort of sits there a bit before it just FALLS down in a blob. It's very odd.

I would guess that I got an "off" set, except the black and white colors in this set are marvelous and perform really wellthey are both perfect consistency and go on the canvas like a dream. I'm flying through the white.

So it's sort of an iffy thingif you want really great, vibrant metallic inks that will really POP on your artwork, this might not be the set for you. But if you want something a lot more subtle, sort of like a gold sheer powder effect, you might like these.

I had heard it was permanent when dry, but this ink wasn't in all cases. I had tried it on paper, but when I glossed the paper (a special project), the ink started to blend again. Not necessarily a bad situation, but I didn't want it to blend any further.

Things I've learned SHAKE it before using it, and make sure you empty the dropper tips before you shake it. The yellow tended to get thick between uses. You can use the dropper to dispense the ink or you can use a brush or a pen. It is definitely fun, and the bleeding effect of the inks is a special pleasure of mine. Wet paper, or a readily available spritzer, makes this easy. I used a small palette to hold a few drops of each color, and it did just fine.

The ink comes off non-porous things, even after drying completely, with very little effort. And it doesn't work on Shrink Plastic it tends to bubble and flake off.

Last of all, keep the chipboard tray the bottles come in (I got the 6 piece set) because it comes in handy for preventing spills.
