These can be a little clunky, not in width, wish we could find really wide width cable needles, but they are clunky because they flip flop and make it a little harder to not flip your cable stitches. These are not a preferred cable needle, but will keep them as a backup to my rounded hook shape ones.

My instructor recommended this style of cable needle as opposed to the hook style (which seem to come in plastic vs metal). The slick surface has both advantages and drawbacks. It's easy to slip your cable stitches onto the needle, but they also easily fall off it. Similarly, the straight style is good for working with the stitches once they're on the needle, but I might try the hook variety to keep the stitches from sliding before I'm ready to knit them. I'm a new knitter, obviously, so maybe these are things you get more accustomed to with practice.

As someone who teaches wire weaving, this set is difficult to recommend at this price. All the major components here you can get for yourself and spend under $10: buy a child's pencil case (which is what this carry case looks like) and do your wire weaving on the six sided pencil. Buy a nail clipper from a dollar store, drill holes in a piece of scrap wood, and get a length of craft wire. I wish this were sarcasm; it isn't.

A good draw plate should be made from hardwood, not plastic. The purpose of a draw plate is to shape metal. The draw plate I use started out as a $2 bit of oak from the local hardware store. Just put holes in it with different drill bits; this isn't rocket science. What it takes is something sturdy. The plastic draw plate is apt to wear out quickly.

Other components offered here are incomplete and of dubious quality. Is the wire hypoallergenic? Is it brass or base metal? What gauge is it? The kit doesn't say. This is important information for people who get skin reactions to cheap jewelry or who intend to continue this craft after using up the trivial amount of wire included with the kit. This kit does not include enough components to finish wearable items: you'll also need pliers and clasps.

The kit advertises itself as gentle on wire coatings, which is true. In order to prevent scratches you could use a wooden pencil as your dowel or else purchase a product which unfortunately Amazon does not sell. It's called Tool Magic Solution, available from specialty jewelry craft suppliers for around $8. The idea for a six sided tool comes from crafters who find it easier to wire weave on an allen wrench than on a round dowel. When you are ready to try something other than six loop weaves, pick up a few round wooden dowels of different sizes from a craft or hardware store.

There is exactly one reason why this review gets two stars instead of one: the Beadalon Lazee Daizee Viking Knit Tool actually does make it easier for beginners to start their first pieces. It takes about 20 minutes for most people in a class setting to learn how to start their first piece without it, but if your confidence level isn't very high you might want that item. The component is available separately on Amazon for $24.21.

I was only going to buy the draw plate, but I thought, "Wow! I can get that and the whole Viking Weave kit in a cute little storage case for less than the draw plate and tools and wire, with free Super Saver Shipping."

It arrived today and the first thing I did was put my tools in the cute little storage case.

Smart...right?

Yes, until with the first zip the zipper on the cute little storage case broke. I was unable to fix it, so now I have everything to try the Viking weaving, but no cute little storage case. I could have accomplished the same thing with a dowel, a piece of tape and some wire (see the internet for free instructions) and made my own cute little storage case, which is the second thing I'm going to do now that I have this kit.

The whole weaving procedure is pretty straight forward; you can even get free directions to make your own draw plate on line. After I make my own cute little storage case, I'm going to try the tools. It can't get much worse from here.....of course the tools are plastic, so I suppose things could get worse if they don't stand up to use.

Fortunately Amazon's price was the lowest I found and shipping was free. If I'd paid the $68.49 list price for the kit, plus shipping, I'd be really miffed. Now, I'm just half miffed.

The tool does make viking knitting easier.

However, there is a major problem. The instruction pictures are too small and confusing.

The author should have printed directions for a simple way to finish a necklace.

The price for what you get is ridiculous. You'll do better, doing a search for instructions.

When I buy a kit like this, I expect to be able to completely finish a necklace. You can't do this with this kit.

This is a nice little introductory kit for anyone interested in starting their own magna style comic book. It is pretty elementary so I do not recomend for anyone with previous drawing experience or training, but as an introduction to drawing magna style comics it is quite nice.

I purchased this product for my daughter and she just absolutely loves it. She is an aspiring artist with a passion for Manga and this kit was just right for her. She really enjoys the fact that she can pose the mannequin that is included with the kit, in many different poses so that she can see her character in 3D before she draws them to capture what she is trying to put on paper. It will be very interesting in the future to see what she creates with practice.

Review of Ranger - Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad

No...this ink isn't great for stamping, but when it comes to distressing: WOWOWOWOW. I have used it directly on paper as well as using a cloth to "apply"/rub it on things such as chipboard, etc. Once I've applied the ink, I spray a bit of water on the inked parts and VOILA....the ink will make the paper age MORE-SO by "seeping" a bit. Haven't used the other colors, but I am anxious to work with those, too!

I wouldn't pay the 6.84 on Amazon, though, when locally, it is MUCH cheaper.

In July I bought a Uchida 2500 Embossing Heat Tool and, being new to embossing, didn't know which brand of embossing ink was best to use. I got an inexpensive ink pad at a local craft store and it didn't last very long, less that two weeks of moderate use, and the thin little pad dried up. So I came back here and purchased the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad and have been using it for over a month now and it's still loaded with ink. The ink pad is thicker than the cheap one I got and produces a much better result when rubber stamping.

If you're looking for a good value and a high quality product, then this is the ink pad to use. I plan to try some of the colored pads next. Happy Art-Making!!

Don't plan on using this ink pad with rubber stamps unless you want a fairly translucent effect. If you are layering images to create a collage, this can be a good ink to use. Don't get fooled by the clever marketing names, Mustard Seed is plain old yellow, marmalade is just plain old orange, work lipstick is a cherry red.....the colors are not unique. I think the stamping foam that is recommended as an applicator for this product is really awful. If you want to try the foam, you can just as easily use the foam wedges they sell in the drug store to apply foundation make up with.

Honestly, these distress ink pads have a lot of uses, but the one thing I never use them for even though they are ink pads is stamping. I found that no matter what type of paper I use or what stamps, these will always bleed at some level. I saw a tutorial on google with someone using these inks for stamping and I definitely noticed the same thing. For stamping, I prefer pigment inks all the way. With that being said, I really love these inks to help age paper. The brown tones combined with the blending tool really creates a wonderful vintage effect. All the colors look great blended together and they are really easy to use when it comes to working around a mask for a really fancy effect. Overall, I don't own too many of these, just the colors I need for vintage effects on paper. I really suggest for those wanting to try these to buy only one and try it out to see if it fits your needs. Also I wanted to add that it helps to shop around because some people are selling these for seven bucks which is insanely high because many of these can be purchased on websites other than amazon for three to four dollars which makes all the difference.

I just recently took up sewing and have gotten hooked! I love creating all sorts of new things, and have spent a lot of time searching out the best tools to help me do so. I purchased this pen and pencil set and was disappointed with the product. The marking pen seemed almost dried out when I got it and after just a few uses the line was almost too faint to see. I still use it occasionally but only for small projects because if the pen is uncovered for too long it stops working. I don't mind the pencil but I feel like if that was all I wanted I could have got just that for a lot cheaper. Overall I was pretty disappointed with the purchase. I own multiple marking tools and among the pens I use, this one is the worst. While the tip is fine, the color is a VERY light blue-I expected a blue as dark as the cap, but it is more a light turquoise, which really renders the pen useless, unless you mark very light fabric.

The pencil cannot make up what the pen is lacking either. The tip wears off quickly and sharpening it is a pain. Mine will not sharpen evenly, so I am always stuck with one side having the wood come all the way up to the lead. Makes it literally useless.

I have a twin marking pen in purple from Dritz and it is much much better than this product.

I am hard on clay shapers, and these, so far, have held up VERY well. I will definitely buy these again, as the price is amazingly less than most comparable products, but the quality is definitely there.

The only "problems" I have are:

(1) I wish they were 2-ended to save space on my workbench, and allow me to have 2 tools in my hand at once.

(2) that there was an option to have shorter handles (even with 2-ended) I do a lot of detail work, and risk "poking my eye out" with these.

However, these are not truly problems, as I knew what I was buying, and I'm going to take a saw to the handles!

If you are expecting Swarovski quality, these aren't for you, but then, they don't cost as much. I found them perfect for my project a Mardi Gras t-shirt.

These are made in China. Size is very uniform compared to other cheap crystals, better sparkle than some I have used that were more expensive, hotfix glue seems to work well. I haven't washed the item yet, but the glue melted at exactly the same temperature as the Swarovski crystals. In contrast to some of the other cheap crystals, these didn't have crystals in the bag that were wasted because hotfix material had fallen off.

I do not know how well these would work if using the small Bedazzler tool or with an iron because I use a heat press. In my experience, the cheaper crystals have hotfix material that often takes longer to adhere even with a heat press and require multiple pressings. The fact that these worked so well at the same temp in my heat press as the Swarovski (325 degrees) means the adhesive works better than other cheaper crystals I have used.

The item used for my projects is 100% cotton t-shirt. I don't know about other fabrics.

This was a replacement product for another kind that did not work for me. These were great and adhered very well to the hem of a bridal veil. The very same veil in the bridal store was $150. It took me several evenings in my spare time to apply about 7 feet of crystals, as these are the smallest available. I did use a heated applicator and it could not have been easier. I have plenty of crystals left over for another project! Shipping was extemely fast, too.

I just finished my FIRST QUILT EVER!! It's a baby sized quilt, so nothing amazing. When I was shopping for feet related to clothing making I saw this foot and figured it was inexpensive so added it to my card with the quilt I just finished in mind. I pieced it together and finally got to the 'stitch in the ditch' part. Please keep in mind I am teaching myself how to make this as I go along. I don't even OWN a 'real' quilt, just machine made bedspreads etc. Now that I've used the foot I understand why it's so useful. My first quilt looks AMAZING. The 'ditch' stitching is neatly tucked into the joined seams. You can't even see them on the face of the quilt, but the quilt has that distinctive 'quilted' look. I don't know how else to put it. Now I'm going to try the Distinctive Free Motion foot for the all over quilting. I'll be reviewing that foot next!

To the mechanics of the foot itself, it attached perfectly to my older Singer. The bit of metal that goes 'in the ditch' guides you really well, but it has enough 'give' that excessive pressure to it just nudges it over a little. You move the foot back, and the metal bit just goes back to center. Basically, I hit a few spots where it got tripped up by there being something to push against (my own mistakes in putting the quilt together) and the bit didn't bend. I was really afraid I'd ruined it a couple times, but it sprang back like a champ.

I LOVE this foot! I purchased a lot of fleece remnants and sewed them together to make blankets for the homeless shelter. I was able to butt the fleece pieces together and join them with a decorative stitch. This was a very easy and inexpensive way to provide blankets for the homeless clients at the shelter.

The presser foot fits my Brother CP6500 perfectly.

But, I can't say I'm overly impressed. Sure, it's helping me keep to the ditch when quilting, but the small guide goes astray quite easily. What happens is the ditch guide attached to the foot very easily wobbles and bends, and even gets caught up behind seam edging. I was sewing a slow to moderate speed when using this, but I'd imagine anyone sewing at a fast speed would most definitely break off the ditch guide if it got caught up on the fabric and it wasn't caught in time.

I'm sure other presser feet could be used to stitch in the ditch without the guide, and although I don't have any quilt projects planned (for now) I imagine that if one happened to come along I might just use another presser foot.

I had not sewn in a while and took on making several evening gowns. This was one of the products that made the results look professional. What a fantastic thing. When you are trying sew inside of a seam such as going acoss the shoulder on a sleeveless shirt to hold the facing in, just pop this on, put a little tension on your fabric to open the seam a bit and go for it! The foot has a little plow that runs along in front of th needle so that there is a well hidden seam. I love it.

My Grandmother made a blanket out of these blocks for my daughter when she was born. Instead of using all red thread she used spring colors and it was Beautiful. My little girl loved it to the point that after 2 1/2 years the threads began rubbing away. (Not the threads of the fabric, but the color threads that made the images.)
