What's to say about Mod Podge that we don't already know? A long time favored product. Now they have a lot of different variations on the "glue" theme, which is very helpful to the crafter or just for having around when kids get bored! My roommate used some to seal a wooden box he sanded and it looks really nice with only one coat. I'm going to try my hand at making tiny wigs for dolls like they show on YouTube! Cheap Plaid Mod Podge 16289 Silicone Craft Mat

I'm a craft enthusiast and do several projects a week. I typically get hot glue on my desk (or something else that shouldn't have hot glue on it) just as many times. I finally broke down and bought this craft mat, and I am so happy I did. It's durable but it doesn't take up a ton of real estate. Plus, you can roll it away if you want. I would highly encourage avid crafters to make the modest investment.

I love this mat and plan to get another for my crafting go-bag since it folds up into such a nice small package. It is great for all those messy tasks like mod podge, varnish, embossing, glitter, wood burning, etc. etc. etc. I have tried others, this one seems to have more silicone or something as it has better non stick qualities and cleans up really easy. I'm tempted to get one for dedicated food prep in the kitchen, I suspect it will work better than the pastry mat I have now . . .

Just another item I did not know was out there, I have been working on newspaper, that dies a great job protecting table tops from product spills or even that seeps from the work I'm doing, Have you ever picked up something from the newspaper and found the project glued to it. The picture hooks firmly hold the wall pins in a plastic block which stops them getting separated and makes it even easier to hammer them into the wall. The tidy tin is a neat idea, though it took some time, effort and ingenuity to open it the first time. Altogether a neat idea.

Plus they come in a great round container (instead of the plastic bubble with cardboard backing that sends them scattering when you open it) and all the nails are in the hooks. I bought this kit for our annual tie dye party that we have on Labor Day weekend every year. This dye kit doesn't come with the ash rinse like other kits that I have gotten, but works just as well without it. Just prewash your white shirts, and go for it. We got 12 shirts dyed with this kit, but they needed extra rubber bands for everyone to dye shirts at the same time. I would recommend getting your shirts damp before dying them, otherwise the dyes run like off of a ducks back. It had a harder time soaking into the material, but when you dampen them first, it soaked right into them. About six hours later, we just rinsed them in the kitchen sink with running cold water, and rung them out. They were them washed in cold water in the washing machine. How cool they turned out. My kids wore their newly dyed shirts to school the very next day! We got this kit and another kit that claimed to dye 8 shirts, and all together we only dyed maybe 16 shirts. You can never dye the amout the box intends, because most people put a lot of dyes on their shirts. This kit alone only dyed about 12 shirts, not 20 like the box says. It sure was a fun family day that we recommend for all ages above three years old. Kids need adult supervision, but they can do it themselves and love what the shirt looks like when they get it done.

I was very pleased with this kit. We bought the kit for my sons 7th birthday and the kids loved making the shirts. We all made spiral shirts and I was concerned about the lack of perfection with the twisting of the shirts and the haphazard application of the dyes, but they all came out great. I would recommend this as an outdoor activity or have cleaning products nearby to clean up any stains promptly. The kit states 20 shirts could be made, but it was more like 12 youth mediums. Still the shirts look great.

My family (and neighborhood children) used Tulip one-step tie-dye kits last summer. I found that to get vibrant colors that last I had to soak the shirts in a soda ash solution for 10-30 minutes, squeeze out the excess water, then use the product as directed. I then rolled each shirt in a plastic bag, let sit in my basement overnight, and rinsed/washed the next day (this may be in the standard directions). The shirts have been through the wash many times in the last 6 months and haven't faded.

This an easy-to use product, the little bottles give you a great deal more control than the vats of dye we used when I was a kid! The colors available through Tulip are bright and remain brilliant as long as you follow the instructions. You can refill the bottles half-way through use(although, admitedly this will dilute the color a bit) to make the dye last longer. If you want to dye large areas it is best to use the wet dye method (apply to wet fabric) in order to have the dye bleed and spread through the fabric rapidly. If you want more control, apply the dye to dry fabric using the bottle tips. The only real problem was that the gloves provided are NOT adequate to protect your skin. I had resigned myself to having smurf-blue hands when I found a fabulous solution...MR. Clean Magic Eraser! Just add a little water and scrub, the dye comes off quickly and easily. Now that we have found such an easy solution, I think we will let the kids do this much more often. They love the creative aspect of it and I love that we can reuse old shirts that had gotten boring...just add color!

Best Fiskars 12-66007097 ScrapBoss Starter Set Deals

Fiskars, well-known for their scissors and paper punches, makes a great system for embossing, stenciling and cutting. It's super for scrapbooking and cardmaking. Everything in these sets works together. I have several of the sets, and thought you might be interested in this versatile system.

The first piece that you need is the Scrapboss. Measuring 12 inches by 12 inches, it's big enough for full-size scrapbook pages. Templates are fastened to it by repositionable pegs. Underneath, there's a storage tray to store templates and paper. It comes with 2 styluses, some stencils, and a project book. The Scrapboss can use any stencils and templates that Fiskars makes.

There's a smaller cousin, the Shapeboss. It fits stencils and templates that are 9 inches by 11 inches and smaller. It comes with a stylus and some stencils. It does not have the storage tray. For the smallest sizes, try the Cardboss or Mini ShapeBoss Set The stencils listed on those pages both work on the Scrapboss and Shapeboss.

Embossing and Stenciling

Embossing and stenciling are very easy with this system. The laser-cut stencils come in two parts. First you lay the bottom piece on the Scrapboss, then the top piece. The top piece has grid lines and is marked, "top." Next I usually put a couple pegs in the corners to hold it securely in place. I position the paper, cardstock, or thin metal in between the two pieces and, start embossing. The styluses comes with different size tips. Smaller tips are better for detailed areas, while large areas can be finished quickly with the bigger tips.

The stencils come in a large variety, from abstract lines and letters, good for lots of pages, to holiday and baby themes. If you click on the small pictures on this page and this page, you can see the details of each one.

Sometimes I emboss right on a 12x12" scrapbook page and create borders and frames. I also make embellishments by embossing smaller pieces or copper pieces. I usually emboss before cutting them out. It's easier.

Another set that I use alot to make photo mats and embellishments for scrapbooking and cards are the Texture Plates. They're made of hard plastic with holes at the top for the pegs. Each is two-sided, with a different texture on each side. The assortment pack is a great value and contains 6 double sided plates (12 designs) including hearts/ stars, lines/waves, bubbles/dots, squares/fabric, stones/bricks and wood/leaves.

I use the Texture Plates with the Shape Templates that I'll talk about later to create my own textured die-cuts. For example, I put the heart shape template on the Scrapboss with a hearts texture plate beneath it. I slide my paper in-between. I emboss inside the heart shape, creating a hearts texture. Then I cut out the heart shape. It's very cute! I also like to create titles this way, using the letter and number shape templates and the other texture plates.

Cutting

The Fiskars templates for cutting are designed for the ShapeCutter. It's a very safe and accurate way to cut out clean shapes and letters. The cutting mat and shape templates fit the Scrapboss or Shapeboss and have holes to secure them with the pegs. Using the ShapeCutter is very simple. Hold the base of the ShapeCutter inside the template and follow around the edge. To cut a freehand design, I just look down at the blade and follow my traced line. The blade is adjusted by a knob on top for different paper thicknesses.

The ShapeTemplates are sturdy plastic with grid lines, and can be stored in a binder. They have several shapes on each one, and some have border designs along the sides. They come in many varieties and letters and numbers. There's also a set of Super Size ShapeTemplates. On these, you can use the inside and outside of each shape, That's great for cropping a photo and creating a matching shape mat.

Overall, I use the Scrapboss alot in my paper-crafting. It's very versatile, and I can create many different looks, cards, and layouts.

I love making my own greeting cards!! This adds a new dimension to my creations and it's fun and easy to use. There is storage on the inside for full scrapbook sized sheets of paper as well as more stencil sets and the embossing tools and pegs. The only drawback to this, for me, is the size. It's really designed for scrap bookers so it's quite large, about 16 inches square, so I wish I had gotten a smaller version for myself. If you don't scrapbook and mainly work on smaller items then you might want to get one of Fiskars smaller versions of this. Either way, they're all pretty much the same. Easy to use, with excellent results (keep a scrap from a white candle handy and rub the tip of your embossing tool on it, it really helps the tool glide across the paper) I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys papercrafts all all sorts.

Did not realize it was a storage case too! That's gotta be my favorite feature. Comes with 2 tools (bonus!!) and a stencil pattern (which I didn't have before, but now I have another one to add to my inventory!!) which is really great! The booklet inside has some really great ideas I wouldn't have thought of and it's directions are easy to follow. I have tried embossing with Fiskars stencils before, and have griped that I didn't get this board when it was in the stores. I am so happy now that I have it, and I now also have a place to keep my stencils.

When you quilt with appliqué, teeny pieces may arise as part of the picture. The artist who designed my latest quilt recommended these pens to add detail. So far they are very easy to use. Cheap Sand Art Bracelets (2 dz)

I used hot glue to keep the end and little foam stopper in, otherwise I'm sure I would have ended up with sand everywhere. For the foam stopper, I had to put a drop of hot glue, then use a chopstick to cram it in the end before the glue cooled. This made a very entertaining project for my class during free time.
