I'm a professional artist and I use Liquitex paints all the time. I love acrylic paint and Liquitex is some of the best, despite huge marketing efforts by another brand, these are just as concentrated and just as good. They are just the right consistency to not have to be watered down. These paints are not thick enough for impasto but just right for most regular painting uses. The only thing I don't like about them is when you take the inner seal off the top you need a small knife to do it (at least I do) and usually the paint spurts out a bit. I wish they didn't have the inner seal at all, but I suppose it's necessary.

I love Liquitex even if it is expensive. It is better to use a single product line as you learn it's characteristics, both good and bad. I haven't found the bad part of the equation yet with Liquitex. This 8 pack contains a good selection of colors and the soft body is the original Liquitex. Liquitex airbrush medium thins these colors to easily spray in an airbrush. Buying the 8 pack reduces the cost per bottle very nicely.

I bought these for a painting class in school. Buying the 8-pack is a good bargain compared to the prices at the student bookstore. Loved these paints, highly pigmented and had a good viscosity because they are soft body paints. Not too thick (in my opinion, the Liquitex heavy body paints are too thick and hard to mix) and not too thin. Some of my classmates had the cheap Liquitex Basics line and you could tell a difference, these have way better opacity.

The fact that these have a flip top makes them so easy to access compared to the twist-top tubes. You can open them with one hand as opposed to two, which is important in painting because your other hand often contains your brush(es)! They can be squeezed out, so I reached for them much more often than my jars of paint which had to be scooped out. Bottom line: one-handed operation is a major selling point.

Unfortunately my cadmium yellow was all dried out but I didn't realize until it was past the 2 week return date.

These are WONDERFUL paints. They have a fluid consistency, but are incredibly creamy and highly pigmented at the same time. I have used quite a few brands of fluid acrylics before (everything from Golden to craft paints to Byzantias) but never committed to an entire set.

I purchased these Liquitex Soft Body paints for a painting class I am takingI figured it was a good way to get a range of colors in one shot. I have a stash of regular and heavy body acrylics, but not as many fluid acrylics, and as soon as I received the Liquitex paints and opened them, I realized that I have been missing out.

These paints have the same pigment and coverage as thicker acrylics (the acrylics with a toothpaste consistency) but flow beautifully (like syrup). The soft body paints are perfect for either "loose" painting or detail oriented work.

The colors are wonderful and the consistency is a lovely, thick fluid. I use both glaze and water to dilute these, but they flow so nicely, it's rarely necessary. They just flow across the surface of canvas (and paper) and are vivid and bright.

And this eight piece set is a *really* good value at the price I purchased it (thirty three) The colors retail from five to twelve dollars each jar, and this is a perfect started set with six basic color (mixable to many more) plus black and white. I would recommend purchasing this starter kit plus adding a few colors you love and adding as you go.

Review of Darice Quilling Board and Tool, 2-Piece Set

I've been quilling ever since my Grandmother taught me 30 years ago. Back then, I used a draftsman's "circle" template that my uncle glued to a cardboard backing. It worked great for a long time...only requiring occasional replacement of the cardboard.

It wasn't until a few years ago I realized the fancy "quilling boards" were no longer "too expensive" for this cheap crafter. I bought one of these boards...and the quill tool...and think it's a fantastic way to start quilling. Glue doesn't stick easily to the foam stuff...so I've dispensed with using waxed paper to back the rear of the board for assembly. And, it doesn't warp like my cork board from "other quilling board store" has. And the flared base on the tool makes the kit completely worth it. I learned rolling my paper on round toothpicks. The quilling tool is HIGH TECH baby! And the flared base is nice for paper flower making.

NO. It's not really a three piece set...unless you count the bi-lingual instructions included as a "piece." What it is...is an inexpensive quilling board. I recently bought four more of them for a class I'm teaching...and don't have to feel bad if one of my new student's kills one. Highly recommended.

This little kit is a good start for learning the art of Paper Quilling. The gauge helps keeps uniformity in the size of the quills you make. The quilling instrument is easy to use. Good product for a small investment.

I purchased this board to make my quilled pieces more uniform in size, and that's what it does. I'm glad I bought it have had no issues so far, LOVE that I can stick my pins in the board, and dont' have to use another board for this. I've ordered *several* of these kanzashi flower makers, so I'll be basically copy/pasting my reviews on them since I feel the same about all of theme.

I got these to use with fabric ordered from spoonflower.com and one thing to note is that all of these are VERY small, I'd say that your design needs to be micro levels of tiny in order to be noticeable on the petals. The large, however, is much larger than the small, and looks pretty nice with a small (not too busy) pattern on it.

The patterns are all very straightforward to use, the holes are numbered, and if you take your time to gather the fabric nicely when you're pulling the thread, they're lovely!

I made mine using cotton poplin fabric, but I also attempted some using a cotton with some stretch and a brocade fabric that also had some stretch. They come out best with the basic cotton poplin very little fraying and the fabric folds very well. The fabrics with stretch, though, were much less cooperative, and want to fray WAY more while being worked with.

I've also tried just hand-folding these, and it takes me significantly longer to do. Not to mention the results aren't nearly as uniform.

But, I make flowers using these templates, glue them with E6000 to a small (about 1" diameter) circle of felt, cover a button in the same or a coordinating fabric (3/4" buttons work nicely with the small, 5/8" for x-small, and 1" for large), sew that in the middle after the glue is dried, and then attach the finished flower to a brooch, headband, or necklace. Using strong adhesives and a high-strength hand quilting thread, I've yet to have any of my crafts come apart!

If you're thinking of picking these up, they're fairly cheap and fun to use. Generally, I prefer the 5 petal flowers to the 10, but you can mix petals for different looks as well.

The right product showed up when it was supposed to. The only issue I had was the packaging. It was sent in a yellow envelope with a thin layer of bubble wrap. No handle with care sticker or anything. When I opened the case the pencils were all scattered. Prisma colored pencils cannot be bounced around like that without the lead breaking all through out the pencil. A little extra padding would go a long way.

great brush as usual BUT...........

I have told amazon I would no longer be buying artist materials from them a brief while ago and I meant it! Too many damaged and destroyed items due to incompetant packing methods and no responses from amazon on the matter.

The reason I purchased this brush is that my wife needed a few household items,one of which was an add-on,so I needed a small purchase to make the 25 dollar minimum order requirement.So, I broke my own rule and ordered this brush.Being the pragmatist, I had hoped that the brush would come wrapped/packed properly so that I might lift my own self-imposed ban (or at least consider it!).

No luck. The brush was tossed in an oversized box loose.No bag,no protective wrap.The brush head was completely exposed and unprotected and the hairs were frayed from being crushed.Furthermore,upon opening the box I discovered the brush hairs of an expensive brush literally sticking out of the opening on the back of the amazon shipping box! The back of the box had a 1/8th inch opening with no tape and the brush head was hanging out of it! Guess I am lucky the brush did not fall out in transit! Totally unacceptable and unfortunately reaffirms my decision to shop similar items elsewhere. Amazon has great prices but the packing standards have really gone from bad to worse! Until I receive some response from amazon that these conditions are going to improve I am done with it.

Recently I started taking a glass fusing class -something I have wanted to do for years. In class we assemble our projects and then the instructor takes our projects home and does all the kiln work for us. I have loved the class and really wanted to get a kiln of my own, but the price for large kilns is very expensive, requires proper ventilation, a place to use it, it's own circuit breaker, etc, etc.

Before committing to all of this, I decided to look for an easy, affordable alternative that I use to experiment creating jewelry. I purchased this kiln based on the two reviews that were available. Since receiving it I have been using it daily. It is very small, but multiple items can be done at one time (max of 3 or even 4 if very small)as long as similar results are desired. I've had so much fun with it that a friend of mine who is also taking the class has now ordered one as well.

The only concern I have is that the kiln paper that comes with kit creates a rough surface on the edges and bottom of the pieces, creating the need to "sand" the pieces to get them smooth. I went to a specialty store for advice and ended up buying a glass file and another type of kiln paper. The new kiln paper solved my problem. Now I am very happy with my results!

This inexpensive "gateway" kit comes with lots of glass to play with and decent instructions. The kiln is very easy to use and seems to do exactly what it says it will, fusing small glass projects in three minutes in the microwave. I made a bunch of pendants and some very small earrings and learned that it is possible to fire a few small items in the kiln simultaneously, which saves on shelf paper. If the purpose of the kit is to intrigue potential glass hobbyists, it's very successful. I can't wait to learn and do more with glass!

Overall I love this kit, but it does have some cons. I'll go over what I like and dislike:

Pros:

1. This kit has almost everything needed to make a good bit of fused pieces

2. The kiln works better than I anticipated

3. You'll be making pieces on the very first day

4. It's fun and addictive!!

Cons (and I hope the creators of this kit read this):

1. Considering this is supposed to be for "beginners" I give the instructions about 2 stars. How could they be better? Include a project or two to get us started. We get a lot of glass, and no idea what to do with it. That part was a little frustrating.

2. The cutting tool sucks (sorry but it really does). I butchered the first few pieces of glass because I had no idea how to use their tool. Also a glass breaking tool is necessary which is not included. I ended up tapping mine with a hammer to get it to break on the score line.

3. The kiln paper they include is awful and leave the back of your piece rough and bumpy. Buy some smooth paper, like Bullseye thinfire.

That's it for now! I've already ordered more glass (the round shapes are cool!) and can't wait to make more pendants. Overall, I will give this kit 5 stars just because it's so cool to finally have a kiln that's less than $100!

Advice: DON'T use your dichroic glass until you get a hang of the kiln, otherwise you might ruin it while practicing. DO try lot of different glass combinations in order to learn what works with what. If you aren't getting good results (bubbles, sharp edges, etc) try reducing the power of your microwave and try different things until you find one that works for you.

Having tried several very small projects I tried a pendant and couldn't proceed without breakage. After enquiring elsewhere I was advised that using the microwave oven on half-power for a pre-firing would be very likely to increase success.

Using a pre-firing also seems to have eliminated the problems with using tiny dabs of white glue to make things stay in place. In regular fusing I use dilute glue but in this instance full strength tiniest dabs, dried thoroughly, seems to work fine.

Was advised that a coating of kiln wash on the base of the kiln would be effective alone or with kiln paper. I am finding that the kiln wash alone is a much better solution, without using the paper. If I were to use kiln paper in the future I would iron it first to make it smoother. Pre-firing the kiln paper then ironing it would be even better.

When I first touched the kiln it indented a bit with just the pressure of lifting it. Before I used the kiln I coated the outside surfaces (careful to stay away from blow hole) with a coating of high temp kiln cement and fired that on. Highly recommended.

There is a lot to be said about this kit. I have never done anything with glass fusing or kiln work prior to my experience with this kit; so this review comes as a complete beginner opinion.

First the Positives

The directions were very easy to follow. They tell you how to use this kiln. They are very clear about how hot the kiln gets and how come you need to not open it before it's time, not touch the glass until it's cooled and so on.

The first thing I put in there was made with the little bits of glass that came with the kit. It turned out perfectly.

The kit is mostly complete. With one exception, everything you need to make something in your microwave that is gorgeous and fun is included.

I quickly became addicted. I wanted to run out and buy more 'stuff' to make more 'stuff' with this little kiln. It is a great introduction to glass fusing. It made me want to run out and buy a bigger kiln and do bigger projects.

The negatives

You will absolutely need to buy some glass cutter pliers. It comes with a glass cutter 'knife' but without the pliers you just end up hitting the glass and hoping it breaks on the score. It is a disspointment that this isn't included in the kit because it is a must.

You will also want to buy some glue in order to glue your creations to your earrings and necklace pieces.

While the directions are clear about how to use the kilnthey are not clear about how to put things together to make something. In other words, the directions are for the little kiln ONLY. There is very limited direction about putting the bits and bobs and glass squares together to make something. I wanted to have a little bit more instruction about that. For example; it doesn't tell you how many layers of 'glass bits' you can put together to make something. It doesn't tell you what kind of glue to use when making your jewelry pieces or give you any other ideas about what else you might make.

The other negative, which is really minor is that they provide kiln paper and they give you warnings about breathing in the dust of the kiln paper and then you have to cut the kiln paper to size. Why don't they come the proper size?

The cooling time seems like forever when you want to look at what you made. I've never used a bigger kiln but I didn't think the cooling time was unreasonable considering how hot the microwave kiln gets. Just be forwarned, this is not a short quick project that you can throw together 20 somethings in one night, unless you want to stay up all night.

With Limited Use Here are some Hints I Found Help

Make a pattern for your kiln paper. You get only two sheets of kiln paper. You can easily buy more. However if you make a pattern it will make cutting it easier and you can make the most of what you get.

Use tweasers to put some of the smaller pieces in place. I found myself wanting to make mini masterpieces and the little pieces would not go where I wanted them to gotweasers helped this.

Put everything out on a dish towel (or something). I actually used an old metal pizza pan under a dishtowel. This caught all the little glass shards (or it seemed to) and when I was finished I was able to roll everything up, shake it off in the garbage can and wash it.

Super Fun. Worth Every penny.

I am a fiber artist in several different techniques, so I was excited if a bit intimidated to try these painstiks. They are heavy and high quality and cover well. The stiks are self-sealing and fresh product needs to be revealed with each use. A brush and the clear blending stik are must haves when using these for applications that require a firm line, but that is to be expected. These can be heat-set when used on fabric with either an iron or the dryer. I have not yet tried them on a wearable that will take multiple washings but will update this review if I ever do. All in all I was impressed with the product and impressed with Cedar Canyon Textiles, the company that makes the paintstiks. Their website has a lot of additional information regarding how to use the paintstiks and is worth checking out for free projects and updates. A recommended product.

Up until I got these handy gadgets, I had generally avoided making pom-poms. Now that I have these, I'm back in love with pom-poms.

Using cardboard as my base was tricky, because the cardboard sometimes bent if it wasn't stiff enough or it would snag the yarn as I tried to remove the yarn from the cardboard.

I've also used the Lion Brand donut-shaped pom-pom makers, which work well, but looping the yarn through the center of the makers can be tedious, because you can't do it in one fluid wrapping motion as you can using a cardboard "maker".

So along comes the Clover pom-pom makers using the best of both worlds....1) fluid wrapping of yarn and 2) ease of removing the pom-pom. Not only that, it has a way of indicating when you have wrapped enough yarn...you simply fill up the C-shaped "arms". No more wimpy-looking pom-poms.

The Clover makers work similarly to the donut-shaped makers, in that two pieces are held and wrapped together with yarn, then the yarn is cut between the pieces and pulled apart. But the Clover gadgets differ from the donut-shaped makers in that there are two "half donuts" (or arms) to wrap. The two halves are snapped closed before cutting the yarn to form the finished pom-pom. Sounds strange, but it works really well.

I highly recommend checking out Cloverneedlecraft's "how to" video on YouTube. Also I recommend use of small sharp scissors for cutting the pom-pom yarn.

I have bought both the Large set and the Small set of makers, which gives me four different sizes to play with. Back in love with pom-poms.

I happened upon a Youtube video for this pompom maker. She made it look so easy, that I decided that I needed one. Before using this, I used cardboard cutout circles to make my pompoms. The device can be a little squirrelly when first beginning to wrap the arms, it was a little difficult to keep both sides of the device even and together. I will say that it was still much faster than using the cardboard. I think it works better if you wrap the arms more than 3 times, but that makes a really tight puff and not a very loose one. The less yarn you use, the more likely the strands are to come out of the device before you can tie the string around them. I did struggle to get the tie tight on the first pompom, even though i thought I had it tight enough...I feel like there is a bit of a learning curve to using this with ease, but if you make a lot of pompoms, this is absolutely worth it...
