Maybe I was lucky, but my tin of charcoal arrived without damage. Maybe they have improved their packing techniques.

But please note that charcoal can be used in all different sizes. So if your pieces are broken, it's not a big deal. Just use it anyway. In fact, people actually pay for jars of charcoal dust. It can be applied with a brush for delicate effects.

If you drop a piece of charcoal a few feet, say from the table to the kitchen floor, it is going to break. Pick it up, blow off the cat hair and get back to work. Colored pencils, on the other hand, can be ruined by dropping them. If the lead breaks inside the wood, it can be very hard to sharpen because the point keeps breaking off. I gave up on colored pencils as a regular art medium.

In any case, wherever you work with charcoals, it's a good idea to cover the floor with newspaper to catch the dust that will descend as you work. Likewise wearing an old shirt and dedicated apron is prudent.

Beautiful work can be created with charcoals. So send your inner critic away and find your inner artist.

And the best advice I ever got was this: Never compare your own work to the work of others.

I had never worked in charcoal before, and this is a wonderful choice for the beginner. The only thing missing from this set is the correct sharpener for charcoal. Otherwise, you get hard, medium, and soft pencils, two charcoal sticks, a buffer, and a case to carry it in. Good deal.

This set gets only 4 stars because it comes with no white. Not that white is necessary but it would sure help render better drawings than the contents of this set alone. The pencils are actually better than what i expected but the compressed charcoal is what surprised the most. Overall this is an ok set but be aware that you will need white charcoal if you plan to get better using the technique.

Was a bit disappointed when I received the item in the mail. Container holding the charcoal was tin-ny and cheap. I guess the contents themselves (pieces of charcoal, other pencils) were all fineit's just that the presentation/box it came in was lacking. Also discovered that the outside cardboard and plastic packaging was damaged and partly opened. Made me question how reputable the company wasand why I didn't just go for a more recognizable brand (Faber Castell, Strathmore, etc). Disappointed since I was giving it as a gift. Ended up purchasing another setpost-Christmas, a Prisma-Color collection from Strathmore. The packaging/presentation was much nicer. I guess this set would have been fineif you were looking to pay less money and didn't need it as a gift.

These Createx paints are a great and relatively inexpensive way to go if you're in the market for some high-quality airbrush paints. I have tried the transparent, opaque, and metal flake varieties and have been impressed by each. I keep looking for SOMETHING to make me think I should be spending more money for "higher grade" paints, but these have met or exceeded my expectations after years of painting with various brands and types of paints.

This paint seems good. But aside from the black and white paint, the other four colors are TRANSPARENT. I didn't even know transparent paint was a thing. I suppose transparent paint is for artistic uses. Be sure you want transparent paint before you order this. It takes a heck of a lot of coats to get any sort of saturation.

These tea cups are very nice quality tea cups, but they are very very tiny. I NOW know that Turkish Tea cups are supposed to be small, but it would have been nice to know the size before I ordered them. These cups hold 5 ounces if you fill them to the brim or 4 onces of actual useful liquid. They are way too small for a typical American to use for tea or coffee.

These are so, so cute, I've got them in green and blue also. I really like them, I would have given 5 stars but the elastic thread they come on is so flimsy! The nice thing is the beads are very durable and hold color. When my aqua colored one snapped off my wrist not a single bead was dinged as they scattered across the floor. Ended up using them to make another bracelet :D

When I first tried to use this platform, I thought it was defective because the black "teeth" on the bottom were missing and the platform wouldn't go through the device when the handle was turned. After much frustration and a little internet searching, I found that the platform works on pressure, not on the little gear teeth that the 4" platform works with. Place the 12" platform in the die cutting machine, put on your dies, paper, and cutting plate, then push the platform through until it won't go anymore. Now you should be able to use the handle to run the platform the rest of the way through. Good luck!

I'm a craft enthusiast and do several projects a week. I typically get hot glue on my desk (or something else that shouldn't have hot glue on it) just as many times. I finally broke down and bought this craft mat, and I am so happy I did. It's durable but it doesn't take up a ton of real estate. Plus, you can roll it away if you want. I love this mat and plan to get another for my crafting go-bag since it folds up into such a nice small package. It is great for all those messy tasks like mod podge, varnish, embossing, glitter, wood burning, etc. etc. etc. I have tried others, this one seems to have more silicone or something as it has better non stick qualities and cleans up really easy. I'm tempted to get one for dedicated food prep in the kitchen, I suspect it will work better than the pastry mat I have now . . .

Just another item I did not know was out there, I have been working on newspaper, that dies a great job protecting table tops from product spills or even that seeps from the work I'm doing, Have you ever picked up something from the newspaper and found the project glued to it. I bought these for my homeschooling children to use for their schoolwork. For my eight and nine-year-old, some of the work involves coloring pages from Dover coloring books; anyone familiar with these coloring books knows that the drawings are elaborate and detailed, and crayons would never do. My nine-year-old daughter takes great care with her coloring, and enjoys experimenting with blending colors so I thought she would enjoy the variety of color this set affords. She has enjoyed these pencils immensely but we have had a little trouble with them. One, the grooves in which the pencils lie in their tin are shallow, and the pencils sometimes all slide out when the tin is being moved, or the top layer is being lifted from the bottom layer. Two, the diameter of the pencil is such that none of the three sharpeners we owned would sharpen these pencils. One of our sharpeners is a standard electric sharpener that we have relied on for quite some time without issue, so I was surprised. I had to come back to amazon and order the battery powered Derwent sharpener; this has allowed the pencils to be sharpened so that my children can enjoy them again. The third thing is that in trying to sharpen the pencil, one of them snapped. The force being used was not tremendous so I would caution the buyer to handle these with care. Definitely not for younger children--if purchasing for children's coloring projects I would recommend a minimum age of six or seven, and if the child is immature, even older. Overall I am happy with this purchase and would buy them again.

My artsy 7yr old loves this fingerprint stamp set. I was a little surprised to find there were no real examples included to showcase some of the different pictures you can create. I thought it would come with a little booklet of some kind, but it doesn't. And it would be nice to have one more ink pad included... only 3 come with the set so you may want to buy extra ink pads. And be aware the item is not large, nice for a stocking stuffer though. All in all, I am pleased with the purchase. My daughter really enjoys it and it's a unique item.

The needle sizes are a good range of three sizes for various projects. What makes this a really great product though is the case.

The plastic is brightly colored so it is easy to find when it's not quite where I thought I left it, or if it rolls out and gets buried in the larger section of my bag.

It's a nice size, can hold different or more needles if desired, but isn't too big taking up space nor too small making it hard to find.

The lid is a screw cap so no worries about it popping off and the needles going missing.

The lid also has a hole nicely placed so you can put a tie through it and then attach the needle case to something if desired. Very handy!

All in all a very nice design--a big bonus for me as I was after needles (and a set of three was perfect) with the case being a pleasant surprise.

I have had one of these Chibi kits for years--and the newer ones come with a translucent body, so you can see your needles inside. (Nothing like opening it up when you are ready to do grafting and find that it's empty because you forgot to put the needles back inside!)

Here are two hints:

1. The tab on the side of the lid has a little hole. You can put a safety pin or very thin ribbon or piece of yarn through it. Then you tie it or pin it to your knitting project bag--or even inside your purse. I have mine inside a denim project bag, a small one, that I use for sock knitting. You will never be searching for a darning needle. It will be right there, and you won't lose the top as it will be tethered to your bag.

2. Bent-point needles are easier for grafting and darning, as you can lift up loops onto the bent portion of the needle. Clover makes a set of two needles that are light gold in color, making it easy to see dark yarn stitches. I put these two in the Chibi along with one of the straight needles.

Great set of knitting needles. They are smoother than the usual bamboo needles, which is great for picking up the speed of your knitting. Very nicely organised in the purpose-built wrap case. Only criticism the fabric print of the case is rather old-fashioned and with so many younger knitters taking up the challenge, a fun or cuter fabric would have been just perfect.

I did not receive 100, but 98 spikes and a random cross about 1 inch big was thrown in. They're not very good quality but that's because they're acrylic and not real metal. I was a little disappointed because the estimated shipping was anywhere from 3-5 weeks from the date I ordered them, and I was never able to track them. BUT they came earlier than expected, in about 3 weeks so that was a plus. Overall, I'm satisfied but I think they should be a little cheaper because of the low quality, long shipping time, and there was not 100 as expected.
