Best Melissa & Doug Race Car Bank - DYO Deals
The bank is absolutely adorable. My 4 year old son was so excited to paint and place stickers on his bank and I love how I can put it on his dresser as a keepsake after he fills it (I wrote his age and the year he designed his car bank). True, it is not a huge bank but he was able to put about 100 coins in it, which is fine. I am planning on getting some more cars so that he can paint more and we can decorate his room with more of his "artwork". I think it would be a great rainy day project, stocking stuffer, birthday favor, etc.

PictureThatSound Pregnancy Recordable Card, Set of 2 Review
We attached an ultrasound picture and the card allowed us to record a bit of the sonar heartbeat monitor in order to share the sex of our new little one with family. The card is very attractive and worked exactly how we had envisioned.

Dimensions Pencil By Number Kit (9" X 12") - in your choice of Reviews
These are fun to do both in your own fine line markers or the included color pencils. You get 4 images printed on quality board suitable for framing once done, and a package of good quality color pencils. The numbers are clearly printed on the board, as well as on an included paper instructions sheet.
Dimensions brand is the best choice in pencil art if you also want to use markers instead of pencils, as the board quality is such that marker ink, even the washable kind, work very well with it. The marker ink won't run on it like it will with other cheaply made pencil art kits found at your neighborhood craft store. I use markers because it makes the artwork 'pop', plus makes it more challenging, and I save the pencils that came with the kit for use on other crafts.
These also make great gifts for pre-teens and teens. The highly detailed images would be very difficult for younger children.
A great value! These kits provide hrs and hrs of concentrated fun...even for me, and I'm 42 :)

The picture shows a fairly detailed amount of shading with the colors. HOWEVER, the shading is achieved by BLENDING -with PENCILS. There were only 10 (yes ten) colored pencils total and a grey and black short pencil in the one I bought. this is more of a dollar tree item than the 4.79. I was disappointed.Best Deals for Dimensions Pencil By Number Kit (9" X 12") - in your choice of
Very disappointing. Not your traditional pencil by number. One page has the numbers, the other has the picture. Both pictures are normal paper not cardboard. Would not recommend to anyone.Honest reviews on Dimensions Pencil By Number Kit (9" X 12") - in your choice of
definitely not for children. I feel the advertising was misleading. Very disappointed, kids were really looking forward to these and they are way too complicated.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dimensions Pencil By Number Kit (9" X 12") - in your choice of
These end up looking much better in person than in the pictures, and they are a lot of fun to do.Saturday, October 25, 2014

I bought a small set of soft pastels on a whim not too long ago, and instantly fell in love with the medium. I wanted more colors to work with and a friend suggested Loew-Cornell as the brand to start out with. I must admit, I was a little hesitant to try these at first, as they were much cheaper than the more respected artists brands, but I'm glad I spent my money. THe colors are bright, and the pastels themselves are quite smooth. I would definitely recommend these for the beginner pastel artist.
Pieces of wood just come off the hinges and it falls apart. You may have to glue the pieces together yourself.

Absolutely no cushioning inside the tight-fitting box so many sticks broken in pieces, some smashed. Disappointing, but for the price I guess this is what you get.Best Deals for Loew Cornell Soft Pastels in Wood Box, 72-Count
I actually purchased the Loew Cornell Soft Pastells to use for under painting. They have a very large variety of colors and make very good pastels for under painting. They are firm and do not have as much quality pigmentment as some top grade pastels. For the beginning artist, they are an excellent and affordable beginner's medium. For the intermediate and experienced artists, they make a great under painting medium or are great for mixed media art. They definitely meet my needs for under painting.Honest reviews on Loew Cornell Soft Pastels in Wood Box, 72-Count
I purchased this product as a gift. I have to say that while the product works for its purpose, I was a little disappointed when it was opened there were many pastel sticks that were broken and some in small pieces. I have seen it in use though and the large array of colors are quite nice.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Loew Cornell Soft Pastels in Wood Box, 72-Count

Best Finger Printing Art Set - Fairy Tales Edition Deals
This is an outstanding kit. It's small size makes it easily storable, but everything you need for LOTS of fun is inside. This kept about 4 little girls entertained for quite some time. My older daughter and friend didn't need any help, they created their own masterpieces by looking at the pictures. Great gift idea!

Let your kiddo's imagination take her (or him) away! This little kit has provided hours of fun. We ordered a few other stamp pads to give more options for colors. But the stencil makes it easy for the kids to make designs. My daughter is drawing and telling us stories to go with them. Loads of fun and imagination in this neat little kit! We'll be ordering more!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Finger Printing Art Set - Fairy Tales Edition
My artsy 7yr old loves this fingerprint stamp set. I was a little surprised to find there were no real examples included to showcase some of the different pictures you can create. I thought it would come with a little booklet of some kind, but it doesn't. And it would be nice to have one more ink pad included... only 3 come with the set so you may want to buy extra ink pads. And be aware the item is not large, nice for a stocking stuffer though. All in all, I am pleased with the purchase. My daughter really enjoys it and it's a unique item.Monday, October 13, 2014

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Setting up the craft station took mere minutes since all you really need to do is lay the station out and plug it in. It's not all that heavy and aside from the glass top, the rest is plastic, but it doesn't feel cheaply made. The feet on the station have some grips so it won't slide around, but the rough edges might scar a dark wood working surface (a lesson learned the hard way when I pushed it aside--my work table is dark wood which shows every knick and scratch).
The station itself has a large footprint (call it an even 17 inch square, but it's slightly smaller than that) and while you can do much directly on the station, I find that the guide arm tends to get in the way when working on large projects. (The comfortable working area is really only about 11"x11".) So, keep that in mind if you tend to do large craft projects because you'll likely be moving it out of the way so you'll have more room to work. On the plus side, it's fairly thin so you can store it on its side. (I store it under my work table leaned up against the edge.)
The main thing I like about this station is that it's ultimately a lighted tracing table with built-in 12" horizontal/vertical ruler (US measure, no metric). What bugged me slightly about the ruler, though, is that the horizontal measurements were top down (i.e. 1" at the top and 12" at the bottom) which is a pain when doing measurements from the corner--it's natural to place it in the lower left corner and work out from there, but this asks you to go from upper left. It's also a problem because the glass slightly distorts the lines when you're at an angle, so you have to stand up and look down to make sure you get an accurate measurement.
Another thing that worries me is that you cannot change the lights yourself. It uses LED lights, so one generally wouldn't need to worry about such, but goodness forbid one of the lights turns out to be a dud. Should something like that happen, the station would lose a great deal of its value.
The switch for the light is on the plug's cord rather than the box itself which seemed strange and light isn't the brightest I've seen, but it's adequate for projects using light (colour and weight) cardstock. I tried it out with some brown 65lb cardstock and it was a no-go--I could barely see the patterns underneath. But it worked just fine for the majority of my scrapbook pages which were lighter coloured.
Speaking of patterns, it comes with a small (~4"x5.5") metal stencil with elegent floral-esque designs and a set of 5 (12"x12") templates: guide lines for journaling (good-bye crooked lettering); centering guide for various sizes (i.e. 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, &c.); 1/2" grid, which essentially turns the glass area into a gridded cutting mat; semi-formal script alphabet, numbers, common punctuation marks (# : ; ! ?), common phrases ("Happy Birthday!", "happiness", "Congratulations", "Best wishes", "Thinking of you", "love", "Thanks", "It's your day", "Best friends", "You're the best!", "Welcome Baby", "sweet", "Baby Boy", "Baby Girl", "I love you", "Celebrate!", "Thank you", "Just Married"), and a few swirly border designs; and some elegant frames (reminds me of those found in wedding albums) and embellishments.
When tracing, you can use the templates on top of the glass and place your paper over it, but if you want to do cut-outs using the templates, you can slide it under the glass. One nitpick I had when sliding a couple templates under the glass was that the measurements were off--sometimes only by a hair's breadth, but still noticeable for the finicky types.
Moving along to the guide arm--it's a bit stiff to move from side to side, but I do like that it locks into place and won't budge. The problem, though, is that when locked, it's not completely flush with the glass so some papers can easily slide underneath (if you're using it as a straight edge) and if you're using it to lock a piece of paper in place to cut it with the included trimmer, the paper can slide around unless you apply pressure across the entire arm.
Since I'm used to a self-healing mat, I was scared to cut on the glass--scared that the glass would permanently scratch, thus become unusable. So far, though, I haven't noticed any marks and I've used a rotary cutter (pressing down hard to cut through multiple layers), the craft knife, and I've even accidentally dragged the point of my scissors across it.
I even tested it with a little heat. In the first case, I had a scrap of fabric that needed ironing, but I didn't want to move the station and get the ironing board for it, so I ironed directly on the glass surface without any ill effects. (Note: I did not put the iron near any of the plastic parts and the iron was on moderate heat.) I was also able to use my heat gun to help dry some glue, paint, and spray inks, again without any noticeable damage to the glass cutting surface.
The trimmer was a nice inclusion for quick straight edges, but it wouldn't replace a heavy duty trimmer, especially if it does more than straight edges (I have a YourStory trimmer which does wavy and perforated edges).
The other accessories are a craft knife, a burnisher, a trimmer (which switches out with the horizontal guide arm), and replacement blades. The craft knife has an hourglass shape close to the blade, ostensibly for ergonomics, but I find it uncomfortable to use so I'm sticking with my trusty X-ACTO.
The burnisher, which has the same shape as the knife, is rather comfortable to use--very easy to hold like a pen--I just wish it were double-sided with a finer tip for more delicate work. A touted feature of the trimmer is that you can change the blades hands-free, when in reality, you still need to use your hands, you just won't touch the blades directly. And changing the blades took a couple tries to get used to--definitely not as simple as my current trimmer--but once you get the hang of it, it's a rather quick and painless process.
Overall, this is a nice craft station, best suited for small to mid-size paper crafts, but if you have the space and don't mind moving it around (it's less than 5lbs, so it is movable), then it can also work for larger paper crafts, too. Although I have my quibbles with it, I definitely enjoy using it and it's made my life a bit easier.
I know this review became somewhat unweildy, but I do hope it was helpful to you. If you have any questions about the station or my experiences with it, just leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer.
The light up box isn't very bright. I first used a piece of card stock and couldn't see through it at all. I then switched to just regular printer paper and I was surprised I still couldn't see through it.
The stylus for dry embossing doesn't fit through the stencil provided.
The arm doesn't glide very smoothly.
Overall, it was a great concept. It just didn't measure up to my expectations at all. Sorry Martha :(

I had my eye on the Martha Stewart Craft Station for a very long time, but I had a hard time justifying $100 for a tricked out light box. Best Deals for Martha Stewart Crafts Craft Station
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Martha Stewart Craft Station is a nice addition to my ever growing collection of craft supplies. It is a light box, cutter, trimmer, ruler, and embosser all in one. The Craft Station includes: LED light table, blade shuttle, dry embossing metal stencil, alignment guide, embossing tool, cutting knife, script font and borders template, frames and tags template, journaling lines template, centering guide template, grid template, blade replacement cartridge with two blades. The best feature, in my opinion, is the light box. Light boxes are great for tracing embroidery patterns onto fabric, designs onto paper, etc. They can be rather expensive on their own, so having the light box feature combined with other uses is a plus, especially if you're tired of using your window to trace things! The LED lights are permanent and require no replacement bulbs, which is great. They are bright and allow you to trace easily with accuracy. The paper trimmer feature is great, too. Not having to get out a separate trimmer is a time saver while crafting and saves space, which I love. The embossing stencil is very easy to use with the included stylus, even for a complete beginner. The designs that are included are nice, I'm hoping they will come out with more in the future, but I have no knowledge of that. The design of the station allows you to slide the templates under the glass surface, which is very impressive. You don't have to hold them still on your own, and can trace them using the various guides to make cards of different sizes, trim mats for framing, cut borders, etc. Everything comes assembled so you can use out of the box. I haven't tried changing the blades yet but I did see a video on You Tube showing how to do so, so I will refer to that in the future when the blades need changing. I haven't had this for very long, but I am certain that I will find additional uses for it as time goes on, it really is very versatile and handy. The one thing that it does lack is a nice set of instructions and suggestions for use. There is a short instruction sheet included, but I found the instructions and diagrams to be very confusing and not very helpful at all. I basically figured out how to use it myself because the directions are awful. The diagrams are vague, confusing, and frustrating. There are no demonstrations of how the different features work, the instructions basically tell you how to change the blades. I found videos on line which were more informative, although the official video from Martha Stewart was not very helpful at all. You Tube had a better, more informative video. One other thing I should mention is that there is a warning on the product: This product contains DI-2-ethylhexyl phtalate (DEHP) and Di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP) chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. Don't know much about that, but I'm surprised they didn't use more health conscious materials to make the station. With that aside, it a very nice unit which will come in handy for many tasks. Learning how to use it to its maximum potential will develop over time, I guess, since the instructions were virtually useless to me. The station is a bit pricey at retail cost, but Amazon is selling it at quite a discount. I would probably not pay full price for this, but the discount makes it much more sensible.Honest reviews on Martha Stewart Crafts Craft Station
I decided to risk buying the Craft Station despite the numerous negative reviews. Most of these complained that the light box was not bright enough to use with even the thinnest card stock or paper or that the light had bright and dark spots or was generally not consistently bright across the entire surface. I have now had my unit for less than two hours, have used the dry embossing tool and the plate that came with it, the cutter, and most importantly have traced an image using the light box and HEAVY CARD STOCK. I am here to tell you that the light box is plenty bright enough to allow an image to be seen and traced through heavy, colored card stock. They key is that you cannot have an overhead or task light shining on the work surface when you are tracing. I would think this would be common sense but perhaps not. I will add to this review as I gain more experience with the unit but so far it has 5 stars from me.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Martha Stewart Crafts Craft Station
I had the craft station for almost a year now, and I used it couple of times. I really loved it at first, even though it takes a little bit to get used with it. A month ago I needed to make some invitations for a friend. After like 50 cuts, the first blade starts to rip off the paper, not cut it. I changed it. Same thing happened. Then, I had a thinner paper to cut, it just ripped the wedge, could not cut it. I was looking for replacement blades, couldn't find them anywhere. I wrote to EK telling them my concern. They were nice enough to send me a replacement blade and told me they will be available at Michaels soon. Today I wanted to make some Christmas cards, and the little piece that you cut with, it just broke. The top part broke and the spring just got out. I looked at it, thinking to glue it down, but if I'll glue it, there's no way I will be able to push down the blade. If you want to use it more than just 2 times a year, think twice before buying it, because it's not going to last.Thursday, October 2, 2014
Buy Glow Inc. Glow in the Dark Sample Kit
THIS STUFF IS INCREDIBLE!!!!! When they say it's the brightest glow-in-the-dark paint on the planet, they MEAN it! (OK, so I once found some slightly brighter stuff on Saturn, but it was way radioactive, and took forever to dry.)
The texture is akin to slightly grainy gouache (opaque watercolor paint), and can be thinned if you want to have a more translucent quality. Please note that they also sell more transparent versions for creating cloudy effects, like the Milky Way. I strongly recommend going to a hardware store and springing for one of those tube-shaped blacklight fixtures and bulbs (total cost usually about $24 for the 12-inch set) to get the most out of your paints if you're going to go into wall painting (because c'mon, don't most of us buy this stuff to do starfields on the ceiling? Admit it).
The colors are AMAZING, and definitely show up best when charged up either under direct sunlight or the aformentioned blacklighting. This particular sample pack includes: White, which isn't particularly bright but is a true white, though ONLY when fully charged (otherwise looks like a sort of wimpy greyish-blue); Green, the typical glow-in-the-dark yellowish-green, except strong enough to read by (I kid you not); Ultra Blue, which is a lovely color, also very bright, and actually closer to teal than blue (really lovely; did I mention that?); Pure Blue, a true, fairly deep blue, not quite cobalt but definitely pleasing; and the incomparable Purple, which is an intense deep blue-violet and looks, in fact, just like the picture. Like white, it hasn't as long a glow life as Green and Ultra Blue (and to a lesser extent Pure Blue), but while it shines, you won't be able to take your eyes off it.
Interesting sidenote for physics nerds: all these colors respond to sunlight and blacklight, BUT the purple paint does NOT respond to incandescent or LED light. It DOES respond to fluorescent light, however. Discussion? (And before you ask, why yes, I am unemployed right now. How did you know?)
These paints are white when wet, but they dry to a near-transparent finish with a slight sheen. The glow pigment is granular, so the paint doesn't flow as well as a typical acrylic. I got the best results using natural bristle artists' brushes. Three coats will produce a bright, uniform glow effect.
Smooth plastic and metal should be primed before painting with glow paint, otherwise it won't adhere well. The acrylic base adheres very well to painted surfaces such as walls, and it is quite resistant to chipping. If the wall is painted with a gloss or semi-gloss paint you might not be able to see the glow paint in daylight, but if the wall is a flat or eggshell surface the glow paint will show up as a slightly glossy area when viewed at an angle.
I purchased the 2oz sample pack from Glow Inc before they moved their store to Amazon, so this review won't show up as a verified purchase.

If your only previous experience with glow in the dark paint is the stuff that is sold for Halloween and at crafts stores, you will be surprised by how intensely these paints glow. The least intense (purple) paint is stronger and longer lasting than the zinc-based craft store paints. The V10 and Ultra Blue colors will glow bright enough to cast shadows if applied to a large enough surface. This is a superior product.

I had the paint in my purse with me during the day. I had forgotten it was there and at night my purse had light shooting up from it!! It freaked me out, but this product it awesome!!Honest reviews on Glow Inc. Glow in the Dark Sample Kit
The sample pack was my first purchase. Playing around with it answered my questions and fired my creativity. I put the bottles on a low speed rock tumbler under a light for a day to get them fully charged before painting. I like that it is a thick consistency and is easily thinned with water. I paint at night, flick the light on, paint a dab or two, light off to inspect. At the end of my first night, I happened to leave the light off as I cleaned my brushes in the (flat bottomed) sink. You should do this. It makes a galaxy explode out. If you know someone with a jungle or forest wall graphic, put some eyes on it.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Glow Inc. These stamps mimic an old typewriter. They even go so far as to have each character have slight imperfections built in. These are good at times, and troublesome at other times. When typing a whole sentence the manufactured imperfections become a little more obvious. I think they are great for the price. they also come with circle, square, star, and heart stamps.

This was bought for a classroom. The kids enjoy stamping out their spelling words plus more. It is obviously made well or it couldn't withstand a classroom of young hands! This arrived quickly too. Good buy!Best Deals for EK Success Image Tree Wood Handle Rubber Stamp Set, Antique
Each stamp is just over 1/4 inch wide and long. They are tiny. That is my first disappointment. My second disappointment is the letters are purposely made to look corroded or worn . I don't want or need this in a stamp set, because the act of stamping itself will create flaws and irregularities. ("antique typeface" usually refers to the STYLE of the letters, not the condition. I wanted old style letters in good condition.)The whole set is smaller than a tennis ball. I would return it for a refund but the cost and trouble are not worth it. Very disappointing.Honest reviews on EK Success Image Tree Wood Handle Rubber Stamp Set, Antique

Discount Cotman Painting Plus Tube Set
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $47.99
Sale Price: $24.95

I bought this kit for myself and I love it! The paints in this kit are all Cotman series 1 AA paints, but even with that said, the kit is a great price for beginners and intermediate users of water color. You may even consider purchasing this just for the paint itself, as a starter kit. Or, if you are an intermediate painter with other water color paint tubes, (assuming you won't use the removable mixing palette) you can remove the mixing palette and store some paint tubes in there. This kit basically gives you everything you need to start water color painting (excluding water and paint)!
There are eight mixing holes built into the container itself (about 2.5 inches and 1 1/3 inches), and another mixing palette becomes available by popping it out of the container. The built in mixing container was not too useful for me because I move around a lot while painting, but the removable mixing palette was very nice. I received a Cotman brush which was decent quality and good for a beginner. The paints are locked in place via a snug/snap style housing, so you don't have to worry about paint tube rolling all over the place
The paint was very smooth and the colors were concentrated and vibrant.
I must mention is that the container is slightly awkward to open. It says "Press Here to Open", and as soon as you do that it opens up easily, but it has such an awkward feel to the way it opens. While I have not damaged my container yet, the plastic does feel weak and I worry about what may happen if I drop it from the table.
So to recap:
Pros:
1. Excellent price!
2. Great selection of paint colors (12).
3. Awesome for beginners and comes with everything to start.
4. Paint quality is very good.
Cons:
1. Plastic kit container.
2. Awkward feel when opening.Paints are good, delivery was good, price was excellent. nothing to complain about, bought two sets and the price could not be beat.

Buy Yuzen Chiyogami- set of 40 Origami sheets (#YW-112)
It should be noted that half the papers are solid and are more paper-like in texture than the nearly fabric texture of the patterned sheets. Twenty sheets are patterned and 20 are solid. The solid colors are also beautiful. I bought two packs for a mobile. I think that if the solid, more subdued colors were not part of the mobile, there could be too many colors going on at once and the effect of the piece lessened. The solid colors provide a nice contrast to the busy patterns. All the same, the patterned sheets are beautiful and have golden accents to add to their charm. I say all of this to say that if you are looking for 40 sheets that are patterned, you might consider another product.
This paper is not for beginners. The size make its very difficult to work with. Rice paper can be very challenging for children who are just learning the art of folding.

This is really nice origami paper. Every sheet is different with amazing patterns and vibrate colors. Even the solid color sheets that separate each one are nice quality. Has the feel of handmade paper but with smooth consistency. Very nice to work with. This was beautiful paper, lovely colors and designs, and had a very nice texture. Just be aware that you only really get 20 usable sheets. This paper looks so beautiful. I wish it came in 8 inch squares or even 6 inch squares. I have to look elsewhere for a bigger size. Such a shame
