Maybe I was lucky, but my tin of charcoal arrived without damage. Maybe they have improved their packing techniques.

But please note that charcoal can be used in all different sizes. So if your pieces are broken, it's not a big deal. Just use it anyway. In fact, people actually pay for jars of charcoal dust. It can be applied with a brush for delicate effects.

If you drop a piece of charcoal a few feet, say from the table to the kitchen floor, it is going to break. Pick it up, blow off the cat hair and get back to work. Colored pencils, on the other hand, can be ruined by dropping them. If the lead breaks inside the wood, it can be very hard to sharpen because the point keeps breaking off. I gave up on colored pencils as a regular art medium.

In any case, wherever you work with charcoals, it's a good idea to cover the floor with newspaper to catch the dust that will descend as you work. Likewise wearing an old shirt and dedicated apron is prudent.

Beautiful work can be created with charcoals. So send your inner critic away and find your inner artist.

And the best advice I ever got was this: Never compare your own work to the work of others.

I had never worked in charcoal before, and this is a wonderful choice for the beginner. The only thing missing from this set is the correct sharpener for charcoal. Otherwise, you get hard, medium, and soft pencils, two charcoal sticks, a buffer, and a case to carry it in. Good deal.

Great product , was a christmas gift and got it a week before christmas so the shipping was pretty quick. my brother loved it ! will buy from again

Honest reviews on Art Alternatives Pocket Charcoal Set

This set gets only 4 stars because it comes with no white. Not that white is necessary but it would sure help render better drawings than the contents of this set alone. The pencils are actually better than what i expected but the compressed charcoal is what surprised the most. Overall this is an ok set but be aware that you will need white charcoal if you plan to get better using the technique.

Was a bit disappointed when I received the item in the mail. Container holding the charcoal was tin-ny and cheap. I guess the contents themselves (pieces of charcoal, other pencils) were all fineit's just that the presentation/box it came in was lacking. Also discovered that the outside cardboard and plastic packaging was damaged and partly opened. Made me question how reputable the company wasand why I didn't just go for a more recognizable brand (Faber Castell, Strathmore, etc). Disappointed since I was giving it as a gift. Ended up purchasing another setpost-Christmas, a Prisma-Color collection from Strathmore. The packaging/presentation was much nicer. I guess this set would have been fineif you were looking to pay less money and didn't need it as a gift.

Best Maya Road Tell Your Story Singleton Stamp Deals

Customer Ratings:

This is a great little stamp set from Maya Road. I love the clear view so that you can see where you are stamping. The typewriter image is retro-adorable and I am using it for making my own note paper & for a quick business card with a hand-made indie look. The word stamps are an added bonus especially since the font they used has that vintage typewriter look.

This is a must have stamp for any crafter/artist or anyone who just loves a cool, well made stamp.

I had never tried Mt Vision pastels before I tried these: they are a superior soft pastel. Not as firm as Rembrandts nor as crumbly as Terry Ludwigs or Senneliers. Colors range from subtle to intense. A++!

My pastels are wonderful. Maybe you should not carry something as fragile as pastels as you surely do not package them so the buyers will get them whole. I will be careful of what I purchase through amazon now.

Cheap Wrapables Stars and Stripes Japanese Washi Masking Tape, Set of 3

Customer Ratings:

This tape is very cute with high quality texture but it doesn't stick as well as other washi tapes I bought from other manufactures. But although this one doesn't that sticky, it's still great for decorating papers and bottles.

Buy Art Advantage Canvas Clips

Customer Ratings:

Transporting wet oil paintings turned out to be a NERVEWRACKING experience for me, I was so worried I would dump the canvas upside-down while I was driving or brush them against something and smear the paint. Googled how to travel with wet canvas, found someone mentioning these off-handedly, and I can honestly say I would recommend them to any artist out there that has to deal with moving their oil paintings before drying. Especially useful if you are taking painting classes and can't leave your canvas in the classroom. I would recommend two things though. One, use a decent quality stretched canvas. If your canvas is not tight enough, or braced properly, it might flop against the opposing canvas and render both paintings ruined. And two, use these with a blank canvas and your wet painting. That way you only have to worry about not smearing one painting instead of two.

Oh and one more thing, if you are transporting bigger canvasses, say 36" x 48" and up, I would recommend using two packs of these clips just to be safe and to make transport easier. I am using these on 18" x 24" canvas and they work perfectly.

I used these with still-wet oil paintings. I did have to touch up the places where the clips went on to the painted side of the canvas but was pleased with the overall quality and utility.

I bought these dies to make banners. The letters are the perfect size for that and sizzix makes a quality die. They cut through a ton of materials, including fabric and thin tin products, so they are perfect for what I need.

I was very pleased with the quality of these pastels. They have a buttery soft consistency that lays down beautifully. I purchased this set of light blues as my "workhorse" colors for skies as I've discovered I use this range of colors a LOT for the base in my skies (working lighter and darker around them). They are similar in quality and handling as Unison but at a more affordable price and I would highly recommend them.

Reviews of Prang Ready to Use Liquid Tempera Paint, 32 Ounce Bottle, Yellow

Customer Ratings:

This is just what it says it is. A large bottle of tempera paint. My only complaint is that 1 of the 3 bottles I bought leaked so I recommend that you purchase the paints separate from anything else so it doesn't ship with other stuff as mine did.

Used for a college ministry retreat to paint on plastic. While this took some effort it did work. We didn't expect our "creations" to last and they didn't as the paint flaked off after it dried.

Reviews of Martha Stewart 32240 Paint Roller and Tray

Customer Ratings:

I bought this same roller from Michaels, and it broke less than a quarter into my project. The elbow where the handle meets the roller snapped. Could be that my particular roller was faulty, but I'd buy a less expensive or metal roller.

Flimsy garbage that doesn't roll well. You would be better off going to your local hobby/craft store to pick out a better quality roller

Best Deals for Martha Stewart 32240 Paint Roller and Tray

These works just like they're described. I use them to coat canvas in paint for canvas prints, and they put on a very smooth rolled surface of paint. The box works like a paint holder as well, so you can coat the brushes evenly. Love it.

Honest reviews on Martha Stewart 32240 Paint Roller and Tray

I actually used this product to apply a liquid gasket material in a car engine. Worked great for that! I'm sure it would be great for trim in houses or other projects also.

Discount Cavallini Decorative Stickers Americana, Assorted

Customer Ratings:

I give these to Japanese students as a reward. They love that they feature vintage American cities and aspects of travel (road signs, air travel, etc.).

The stickers come in a thin little tin that is adorable.

The stickers themselves are of very nice quality. Great for scrap-booking, if that's your thing.

I like the stickers and they do remind me of vintage Americana; however, they are printed on flat paper, not shiny paper as a lot of the originals were. Also, one cannot use them on an adult size vintage suitcase because they are too small. They are more child size or mini stickers. Wish they could have had a little bit more variety, too. All in all, very nice tin, cute stickers!

Best Deals for Cavallini Decorative Stickers Americana, Assorted

These are much smaller than the "luggage labels" by the same company, but these come in a collectible tin. The quality is really good. They have a "cloth-like" texture (they are paper) and have a sense of vintage. For best effect pair these up with a set of vintage postal ink stamps and stamp them ("Cancelled") to make them look like the item you are stickering (package, for example) has actually traveled all over the world. Some of these may even have little fill in areas, as they are reminiscent of old tags (I have purchased several of these so it is a crap shoot). Definitely worth the price.

Honest reviews on Cavallini Decorative Stickers Americana, Assorted

the reason why I gave this product 4 stars is that I was expecting the stickers to be slightly bigger but they turn out to be really small. I was a bit disappointed but the quality of the stickers is really good. I like them.

The girls opened it up immediately and started sketching their own designer clothes. They absolutely love this set and fortunately, the templates are different than the other set we ordered. We ordered two other sets before and thought the templates were different for each set, only to find out that they are the same. They absolutely love it!

I'm not a girly-girl but the little gal I bought for is....easy for a little one to succeed w/ her art project. Hoping for a confidence boost to freestyle drawing and creativity.

Best Deals for Fashion Angels Fashion Design Sketch Portfolio Artist Set

This sketch portfolio is the glam version of the originalthink: prom and Hollywood. Don't let that fact scare youif your kid hates ruffles and pink, she can do away with those factors, and just keep things simple and still sweet.

You get:

-A sharpener.

-7 "tree-free" pencils. They look like crayons, but are indeed pencils somehow. Can be sharpened. See pics for colors.

-4 "grippies" for above pencils.

-2 mini glitter pens in purple and dark pink.

-Small sheet of stickers for added glam (shoes, bows, earrings, etc.). Too smallneed more.

-6 stencil sheets that can be held within book. Plain garments, jazzy garments, crowns, shoes, and tons of accessories.

-40 drawing sheets, sometimes with two chicks on each, sometimes not. With this one, you add the skin tone and eye, lip, and hair color, so get out your own pencils, markers, crayons, etc. and get busy.

-Instructions with ideas.

You do:

-Pick a gal.

-Pick your clothes and accessories, and stencil in.

-Color in.

-Add bling stickers.

That's it!

My daughter, 9.7, loves it. She already did three gals last night in about twenty minutes, and I had to stop her because it was almost 10:00 pm. Very easy to use. Marker does go through to the next page, so just be aware of that. We did not sharpen the pencils yet; I will update this review if we do. As I said, though, you can use your own stuff. 6+. Style on, girls, style on.

Cheap World Pride 8mm Strong Magnetic Jewelry Clasps Findings Bead 20sets

Customer Ratings:

I wish I would've stumbled upon these sooner. They are so easy to use, and quite strong. At first, I thought they were too strong, but once assembled on a bracelet they were easy to take off. These will cost about a quarter per bracelet/necklace and the payoffs are pretty great. No breaking, cheap lobster clasps. Easy for not just older people, but busy moms with little childrenanyone who doesn't want to fuss with an aggravating little clasp.

Recieved magnets much sooner than expected, which was a plus. They worked well for the project they are being used on. Very happy with them.

My wife was having trouble working those small clasps on her necklaces, so I ordered out these magnetic ones and were we surprised by how strong they were. They are an excellent value besides being very well made.

Honest reviews on World Pride 8mm Strong Magnetic Jewelry Clasps Findings Bead 20sets

These magnets work. They work so well in fact that I have to pry them apart the first time but then they are fine. I make necklaces and bracelets and have used these for the necklaces. They are awesome. I just went online and ordered two more sets.

By the same token, I have purchased magnets from one company here in the U.S. that shall remain nameless the first set was good but then I went online and tried to order more they sent me something else instead that did not work the odd thing was they were unable to tell me about the strength of their various product styles.

These 8 mm strong magnetic jewelry clasps are really good. It's important when you make things that they stay on and not fall off every time you brush against something.

Magnets were OK. Make jewelry making easy. Recommend magnets before lobster clasp or other clasp. These magnets are worth the price.

Cheap Martha Stewart Crafts Napkins, Shells

Customer Ratings:

These napkins are excellent quality! Everything you need to complete this project is included in the package. This would make a great handmade Christmas gift for a lucky relative. I ordered two sets, so that there is a set of 8.

I ordered two sets of napkins and when they came the fabric of one set was white white and the other set was off white, the color did not match and so unfortunately I will be unable to utilize together if I have a dinner party of 8. I also ordered a table runner to go with the napkins and it was also different fabric color than either set of napkins disappointing!!

Best Deals for Martha Stewart Crafts Napkins, Shells

I had completed a two sets of the leaf napkins for a friend and was stitching 2 sets for my daughter-in-law for Christmas. Was disappointed to discover after I had completed both sets that the colors were different. (one ivory/one white) I neglected to check the lot numbers and they were shipped from two different places. I would probably order these again but I would check the dye lots on the the napkins before I began stitching.
