I really like this kit. I just started drawing again after 20 + years, it's great having the convenience of the pencils and the pad in the same kit. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is due to my preference of leather over nylon. I can't find a leather kit or case like this anywhere.

Maybe I was lucky, but my tin of charcoal arrived without damage. Maybe they have improved their packing techniques.

But please note that charcoal can be used in all different sizes. So if your pieces are broken, it's not a big deal. Just use it anyway. In fact, people actually pay for jars of charcoal dust. It can be applied with a brush for delicate effects.

If you drop a piece of charcoal a few feet, say from the table to the kitchen floor, it is going to break. Pick it up, blow off the cat hair and get back to work. Colored pencils, on the other hand, can be ruined by dropping them. If the lead breaks inside the wood, it can be very hard to sharpen because the point keeps breaking off. I gave up on colored pencils as a regular art medium.

In any case, wherever you work with charcoals, it's a good idea to cover the floor with newspaper to catch the dust that will descend as you work. Likewise wearing an old shirt and dedicated apron is prudent.

Beautiful work can be created with charcoals. So send your inner critic away and find your inner artist.

And the best advice I ever got was this: Never compare your own work to the work of others.

I had never worked in charcoal before, and this is a wonderful choice for the beginner. The only thing missing from this set is the correct sharpener for charcoal. Otherwise, you get hard, medium, and soft pencils, two charcoal sticks, a buffer, and a case to carry it in. Good deal.

This set gets only 4 stars because it comes with no white. Not that white is necessary but it would sure help render better drawings than the contents of this set alone. The pencils are actually better than what i expected but the compressed charcoal is what surprised the most. Overall this is an ok set but be aware that you will need white charcoal if you plan to get better using the technique.

Was a bit disappointed when I received the item in the mail. Container holding the charcoal was tin-ny and cheap. I guess the contents themselves (pieces of charcoal, other pencils) were all fineit's just that the presentation/box it came in was lacking. Also discovered that the outside cardboard and plastic packaging was damaged and partly opened. Made me question how reputable the company wasand why I didn't just go for a more recognizable brand (Faber Castell, Strathmore, etc). Disappointed since I was giving it as a gift. Ended up purchasing another setpost-Christmas, a Prisma-Color collection from Strathmore. The packaging/presentation was much nicer. I guess this set would have been fineif you were looking to pay less money and didn't need it as a gift.

the magnets are not very "sticky" so every time I opened the box, the dies would come off the sheets unless I did it super carefully. Also, the ends of the sheets curl up which doesn't work well with flat dies. I sent mine back for a refund....

I never write reviews, although I often find them a valuable tool when making a purchase both on and off of Amazon. These reviews are ridiculous. You aren't going to be able to just throw your thin die on the sheet and expect it to stick. You have to move the around so that you can get your dies to stick. Dies have a magnetic side, which will easily stick to the white sheet, and side that is magnetic, which will not stick to either side of the sheet. When your die sticks to the white sheet, you've found the magnetic side. I've included a few pictures showing some of my larger dies fitting in the case in the additional pictures area. Besides taking a long time to arrive, even though it was a Prime item, it arrived with all of the magnetic sheets curled up, making it useless! It may have occurred in the shipping process and got very hot for those sheets to curl up that way. Plus I think the sheets and the case could be larger. It pretty much holds only one set of large Nestabilities per sheet. I was given an authorization to return it and was promptly given a credit. Even had the sheets not been curled up, I probably would have returned it due to it's size.

I have dies from a variety of companies: Spellbinders, Die-Namics, Memory Box, Cherry Lynn, Sizzix, etc. I had been storing them all in a large "bin," trying to keep them stuck to their original packaging, but that was becoming a problem

I had tried to devise my own "system" -but couldn't find the right size cards/etc. to use for the backing.

Finally found these, and decided to give them a try.

So far, they're working reasonably well. Almost all my dies are smaller: no larger than what would fit on an A2 (4.25" x 5.5") card, so I haven't run into any issues with larger dies since I don't own any. I can store two sets of Spellbinders Nestabilities on each sheet, but I do have to be careful when "flipping" through the sheets; otherwise, one or more of the larger ones will pop loose.

Also, one brand of dies that I use uses clear plastic on some of their dies (particularly the "banner" dies) so you can see through them to line up your die with a stamped sentiment or whatever, and this plastic interferes with the "stick-ability" from a magent standpoint. I may just remove the plastic, since it really serves no useful purpose.

Some have mentioned the "curling" -and I've found this in several of the magnetic sheets, but not all of them. Not sure what causes it, but for now, I'm using those for my smaller dies, and using the really flat sheets for my larger dies. Also, I've had some luck putting a "curled" sheet between two heavy-weight cookie sheets, placing a few books under the stack and then piling a bunch of books on the top sheet, and leaving it there for a few days (the "sandwich" from the bottom up would be: couple of books, cookie sheet, magnetic sheet, cookie sheet, bunch of books) -really seems to flatten it out.

Anyway, this is my "storage choice" for metal dies for now, until/unless something better comes along. I've been able to find the refill pages cheaper elsewhere, but Amazon's price on the case is the best I've found so far.

I should have read the reviews but just clicked and purchased. These guys are very small and might be as round as a dime. I had some small screws that I needed organized but these guys would not even hold two small screws. These are micro containers. With that said they come in a plastic case and lids screw on nice, so this looks like a good item just too small for my use. I don't deduct stars for my ignorance so this gets a 5 from me.

First off, I have to say, I have absolutely "no problem" with the shipper. These arrived with the rest of my order from Amazon in a timely manner.

I, personally, absolutely LU-HUVE these "micro" jars for what "I" use them for. I will share with you what I like and don't like about these little "micro" jars and hope this review and my recommendations will aid you in your choice of, "to buy-or-not to buy" these little jewels! What I like:

* They only cost around $10 for 30 jars (an incredible price and perfect for sorting and organizing our tiny treasures)

* The "micro" jars are "EXTREMELY TINY" (exactly what I was looking for, and can't stress the smallness of the size enough to you). The inside measures about 20mm diameter X 25mm high (aprox 3/4" x 1"). Amazon carries larger ones Darice 2025-251 Clear Bead Container with 24 Storage Jars and Darice JD Bead Storage System with 12 Containers if you need larger jars. I have a few cases of both of these sizes and highly recommend them (again, keep jar sizes in mind).

* They are completely CLEAR (perfect for quick-finding) and the lids on "the jars" stay on very well, no problems here! The cases stack nicely (place on level surface, slick acrylic, could easily slide off).

* These are fantastic for anything "tiny". Nail Techs would love these too! Great for tiny crystals, baked-sliced-canes, and other little things used in nail art (watch the acetone around them, will cloud and dissolve this type plastic).

* I would recommend them for those teeny-tiny glass beads, seed beads, glitter, and small amounts and sizes of jewelry findings.

* Great to sort & store your multiple sizes of jump rings, crimp beads, crimp covers, clasps (not toggles, unless they are really small), small beads, or "focus" beads (keep in mind inner dimensions), small charms, etc.

* These are "okay" (not best choice), for mica, pigment powders, eye shadows, etc (remember, substances like powders, glitter, and micro glass beads will "slip" into the upper rim of the closed jar and will spill-out upon opening, ALWAYS) Try tapping the top of lid a few times before opening, this helps a little.

What I don't like:

* I DO NOT like the acrylic this set is made of. Any acetone will cloud and degrade this acrylic, pronto! This is that really hard acrylic that chips, cracks, and breaks easily. I ordered 4 the first time, 2 of the 4 lids were cracked beyond use (Amazon sent me new ones). All 4 bottoms were cracked, but usable. It's just that type of acrylic that breaks easily! Keep away from children, please. All of the jars were okay. Ordered 3 more with next order, all were cracked terribly (lids and bottoms). Again, jars were fine. I observed Amazon's packing and found it spot-on. Amazon bubble wrapped and air-bagged the cases in route to me, so I do not believe it's due to "their" shipping practice. I believe the damage is done in warehouse or in it's original shipment to warehouse. Apparently this seems to be a continual problem, so be aware, when ordering.

* I absolutely "despise" how the lid fits with the bottom case. It DOES NOT "fit snugly", at all, in any way. It just "rests" on the bottom case and will fall off if turned sideways or get tipped upside-down. The jars fit snugly enough in the case normally, however, "will" fall out if it gets tipped upside-down. If you plan to travel with these (would NOT recommend in original case), please be sure to secure together, i.e. wrapping something around outer case to prevent the lid from coming off and bottom case & lid breakage. Also, keep this "loose lid" situation in mind when considering where you will be storing and accessing these.

* Absolutely WOULD NOT recommend for storing any liquids. These DO NOT seal well. I CANNOT stress this enough. For the most part, the lids screw on fine (you'll have fewer problems with fit if you try to keep the lid that came with each jar, with "that" jar) If you need individual jars that will be good for small amounts of liquid or powders that are not as apt to leak or slip, I would recommend something like Plaid Cubby Ware Clear Plastic Paint Storage Containers with Lids 1 Ounce Pack of 100. This is the type of jar I would recommend for powder or liquid storage.

* The majority of the lids had sharp edges, where they came out of the mold casting, but is easily taken care of by filing the sharp bit off with a nail file or something like that. Doesn't take long, kind of a pain, but is doable.

* One last thing, (I'm exhausted, as I'm sure you are), I would "NOT" recommend these containers Darice 6-1/4-Inch by 4-1/4-Inch Bead Container with 24 Flip Top Canisters as an alternative. "Just-say-no"! These are terrible. The lids just pop-right-off-there. They "seem" to fit snugly but DO NOT. It was absolute "bead mayhem". I bought 4 boxes of these and they are horrible. We didn't try them all, but of the ones we did, NOT ONE stayed closed. Great concept, poor execution!

It would be so much simpler if the sellers would just put correct dimensions, pictures and uses; recommended, and not recommended in the description details section, but they don't. Darn-it! Lengthy, I know, but I hope this has helped somebody. Happy Organizing! Ciao

Ok well I ordered these bcuz i had previously ordered the 30 set NYX color pigment colors and like everyone says the top holes are to tiny for any kind of brush to fit in, but these clear jars are very easy to work with. The reason it is 4 stars is becasue i think the jars crack to easily and the tops can be a bit to hard to twist off, but other than that they work just fine

This storage system is great for small beads (.2-.4 mm) beads and findings; the individual containers make sure that they stay where they are supposed to. You will need something else for larger beads -containers are small.

I like almost everything about this brush. I had researched it extensively, and I thought it would meet or exceed all of my expectations. I love the handle. The ferrule is fine. The belly, or the water-holding capacity is just what I expected. But I have never been able to get it to point like I see in the photos. If I could just get it to point, I would love this brush. But I can't get it to point, so I don't even like it. I can't use it without a point. Again today, I looked at the pix, and I continue to ask myself -why won't mine do that? I'm so disappointed.

Best Cuttlebug Emboss A2 Deals

The Cuttlebug embossing folders are the best of all worlds. They emboss cleanly, can be used in most larger die cutting machines and they're inexpensive. I use mine in a Sizzix Big Kick. They are plastic folders with a positive image on one side and a negative on the other. Sandwich paper between, put it through the machine and voila! You have your image

The area the larger folders cover is a quarter sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper, just the right size for a small card or a panel on a larger card. This particular design looks good as is or colored in with chalk or markers.

The most dynamic method, however, is to use a brayer to ink the negative of the folder, insert the paper and roll it through the machine. What you get is the raised image the color of the paper and the background the color of the ink. It is gorgeous.

Some of the most effective uses come from embossing white paper and doing nothing at all other than adding a sentiment or a couple of embellishments. It can be quite elegant.

I use this for my cards. I take a strip of paper the same length as the die but larger in width, emboss it, then cut the width down to the size I want, and glue it onto my card. The result is fantastic. If you try to emboss the card itself, it leaves a faint edge indention that may bother some that's why I emboss with the width larger than what I need. It's a great addition.

I get a lot of positive feedback from people when I use this embossing folder as a background on cards. I find it versatile enough to not get old. First I use it as is, just emboss a light piece of card stock and complete my card design. Second, I emboss a piece of card stock and sponge a coordinate color ink lightly over the top of the raised letters for more dramatic look. But my favorite way to use this folder is to emboss Color Core cardstock and then sand the raised image to reveal the color "core". Nice brushes, the hairs are sort & pliable (sable and camel hair). They come in a free storage pouch, although I think it might be better to store them in a jar using florist foam.

The Janome Binder Foot works great and saves lots of time and frustration when adding bias tape binding. The video on Janome's site is very helpful in learning how to use the foot and there are also some videos on You Tube that are helpful. I used a zig-zag stitch to sew the binding. You can also use a straight stitch. This foot worked on straight as well as curve edges. You do need to go slow on curved edges. I would definitely recommend if you are attaching single fold binding.
