I got this for my 11th birthday and I was so excited! The easel is great, the canvas is great quality, and the paints are very nice. This is definitely a great buy for its price. It is a really good set for beginners, or people that are more advanced. Also, the paint tubes were all the way full and I will be able to make many pieces of artwork with these paint. It is a great product for an on the go painter. the carrying case is very nice and has much more room for new paints and canvas. I am glad that I have this.

I bought this kit because I'm not sure how much painting I will actually do. I think its a great beginner kit that basically has everything that one would need to paint. I do wish it came with a beginner's book and a sketch pad of some type, but for the price, I think it's a great deal for those who want to dabble in painting. Mine did not arrive broken as some other reviewers have mentioned.

the magnets are not very "sticky" so every time I opened the box, the dies would come off the sheets unless I did it super carefully. Also, the ends of the sheets curl up which doesn't work well with flat dies. I sent mine back for a refund....

I never write reviews, although I often find them a valuable tool when making a purchase both on and off of Amazon. These reviews are ridiculous. You aren't going to be able to just throw your thin die on the sheet and expect it to stick. You have to move the around so that you can get your dies to stick. Dies have a magnetic side, which will easily stick to the white sheet, and side that is magnetic, which will not stick to either side of the sheet. When your die sticks to the white sheet, you've found the magnetic side. I've included a few pictures showing some of my larger dies fitting in the case in the additional pictures area. Besides taking a long time to arrive, even though it was a Prime item, it arrived with all of the magnetic sheets curled up, making it useless! It may have occurred in the shipping process and got very hot for those sheets to curl up that way. Plus I think the sheets and the case could be larger. It pretty much holds only one set of large Nestabilities per sheet. I was given an authorization to return it and was promptly given a credit. Even had the sheets not been curled up, I probably would have returned it due to it's size.

I have dies from a variety of companies: Spellbinders, Die-Namics, Memory Box, Cherry Lynn, Sizzix, etc. I had been storing them all in a large "bin," trying to keep them stuck to their original packaging, but that was becoming a problem

I had tried to devise my own "system" -but couldn't find the right size cards/etc. to use for the backing.

Finally found these, and decided to give them a try.

So far, they're working reasonably well. Almost all my dies are smaller: no larger than what would fit on an A2 (4.25" x 5.5") card, so I haven't run into any issues with larger dies since I don't own any. I can store two sets of Spellbinders Nestabilities on each sheet, but I do have to be careful when "flipping" through the sheets; otherwise, one or more of the larger ones will pop loose.

Also, one brand of dies that I use uses clear plastic on some of their dies (particularly the "banner" dies) so you can see through them to line up your die with a stamped sentiment or whatever, and this plastic interferes with the "stick-ability" from a magent standpoint. I may just remove the plastic, since it really serves no useful purpose.

Some have mentioned the "curling" -and I've found this in several of the magnetic sheets, but not all of them. Not sure what causes it, but for now, I'm using those for my smaller dies, and using the really flat sheets for my larger dies. Also, I've had some luck putting a "curled" sheet between two heavy-weight cookie sheets, placing a few books under the stack and then piling a bunch of books on the top sheet, and leaving it there for a few days (the "sandwich" from the bottom up would be: couple of books, cookie sheet, magnetic sheet, cookie sheet, bunch of books) -really seems to flatten it out.

Anyway, this is my "storage choice" for metal dies for now, until/unless something better comes along. I've been able to find the refill pages cheaper elsewhere, but Amazon's price on the case is the best I've found so far.

I may be doing something wrong. I've been using embossing folders for quite some time but not this brand w/my Big Shot. The roses came out beautifully but when I tried using the bricks (on 2 different papers) it caused the paper to peel apart (front to back?). At first I thought it was just pushing harder on one area, like the mold was uneven, but then I realized it was more than one "brick". Do to health issues, I have not contacted the seller to check into the problem nor have I wasted more than 2 types of paper on it. I felt that a 4 star rating was reasonable because I don't believe it should be doing it at all, even without any inquiries about it.

Bamboo Crochet Hooks 10 sizes F-N Reviews

These are a good basic crochet hook, with a decently shaped end that catches the yarn satisfactorily, although I had some trouble with the yarn splitting as I finished stitches. (To be fair, the yarn I'm working with right now splits easily.) I received 10 hooks (not 5 like another reviewer) and like the feel of the bamboo. However, when I first tried them the surface was a little tacky (sticky?) and the yarn didn't slide as smoothly as I'd like. We put a light coat of urethane on them (have a spray gun for some construction we're doing out back) and that helped the situation. I still prefer my Susan Bates metal hooks, as they slide easily, catch the yarn firmly, and rarely split. If you like crocheting at a nice sedate pace, and/or prefer the feel of bamboo to the feel of metal, these would do just fine.

This is a great set of crochet hooks for the price. They are quite comfortable to hold, are a good weight, and seem to be well constructed.

However, purchasers should be aware that the product description is not accurate. You only receive 5 hooks, ranging in sizes 5.5mm 9mm (US I-M). The picture does show the five hooks you get, but the description indicates that you will get "12 PCs bamboo crochet hooks 2.75mm-10.0 mm". Despite this, I still feel that these hooks are worth the price. A minor annoyance is that the US sizes are NOT laser printed with the metric size, but that can be easily remedied by writing it on each hook with a permanent marker for easy reference.

Even with these two complaints, I think the product itself still deserves a four-star rating.

Metal and plastic crochet hooks can't compare to the feel of bamboo crochet hooks. These are awesome. I've been looking for bamboo hooks for a long time and was happy to find them here. I hope Oriental Touch will at some time carry other sizes of bamboo hooks. I'd definitely purchase more.

I'm new at crocheting. The only other hook I tried before was a Boye brand one then I bought this set. When using the Boye one I keep accidently catching the loops I'm trying to go through, splitting the yarn etc. Using these hooks which are shaped a little differently that never happens so I like these better.

I bought this on a whim and am very glad I did. the pencils aren't the best quality but they are pretty good and unless you're a professional you won't know the difference. The case is ok, not the best but its not bad either. Its cloth so I don't predict it to last too long but all in all I'm happy I bought this.

These are exceptionally nice pastels. Very soft and rich in pigment. They are handmade right here in the U.S. I recommend them. BUT, don't bother ordering them from Amazon. You'll just end up with a lot of messy dust and no pastels.

I ordered these pastels from Amazon because the price was very good compared to other places. I had to wait quite a while before they shipped. Unfortunately, when they arrived, they were CRUSHED. Not just broken ( a pastelist can make use of broken pastels). About six of the sticks were crushed to total powder. Totally unsalvageable. Amazon shipped them with no protective packaging whatsoever; they just shipped them in the tray that they came from the manufacturer in, rather than putting them into an additional padded shipping carton. Unfortunately, I was in desperate need of some of the colors in the box, so I went ahead and kept them rather than send them back. I also had a 25 piece set of fleshtones and landscape greens on order with Amazon, but after the first box arrived in such bad condition, I canceled that order and went directly to the manufacturer for the other sets.

The maker/owner of Mt. Vision pastels was excellent to work with. He matched Amazon's price on the pastels and shipped me replacements of the colors that Amazon had broken (and he sent the replacements at no charge!!!). The pastels he sent were carefully packaged to ensure safe shipping, and they arrived without so much as a chip broken off.

Buy the pastels. You'll love them. But buy them directly from Mt. Vision or another retailer who understands the proper care of art supplies.

Luckily my pastels arrived in good condition, however, I agree with another reviewer they were shipped in the original box with no additional protection and the box was not even secured with any tape. This would be equal to sending a music CD without the protective plastic with a mailing label placed on the CD cover. I guess I am fortunate that no one along the way did pastels and just needed one or a few of them. I had received a 5 piece set that was entirely crumbled but they made good on it. Clearly someone returned them and they placed the box with no foam in it into a plastic bag ( filled with dust by the time I received it). I have received several other large sets and they arrived in good condition but they were placed inside an additional package with air filled wrapping. I really like Amazon but they do not have enough knowledge of pastels and the care they require.

As to the pastels they are wonderful! Colors are wonderful. Mount Vision pastels are very soft and you will love painting with them.

You may want to stick to ordering from art supply stores. Too bad they didn't listen to the concerns of the first reviewer. If they had taken steps to address the concern I would not be writing this review to suggest you use another provider.

Brush is of excellent quality, has a nice chisel edge, and a great low price tag. Listing says it normally sells for $63, and I can believe it. I've learned to never use cheap paint brushes. They make painting a real chore, render poor results and are discouraging.

As with everything you buy online, be sure to read the entire item description. There are so many products that are given a one or two star rating just because the buyer didn't bother to read the product description and was disappointed by what they received. Whose fault is that??

For instance, the photo for this item depicts 4 brushes, which is a little deceptive but if you read the information provided, you will realize the seller is selling just the one brush.

I haven't ordered this tool but I recognize it from the picture. It's a basic woodcraft burning tool like millions of Boy Scouts have used and it's true that it will melt/burn right thru your encaustic painting. A better option is to go to a good sewing store and ask for the quilt/tacking iron. It'll run $50 but it is a miniature iron shape on a long handle and has temperature control. If you already have a woodburning tool or a soldering iron you can go to a tool place and ask for a regulator. That's probably $50 or more, but is essential so you don't burn yourself or your studio up.

I have this encaustic hot pen and have used it successfully and happily. Of course, I use it with a heat regulator (as directed) which gives the ability to dial up or down on the heat control. Used the proper way, I think it a very useful device.

Directions:

"Like all wood burning type tools this tool MUST be used with a temperature regulator for encaustic painting. When plugged directly into the wall it will get hot enough to burn through woodand it will also be hot enough to burn the beeswax in your encaustic paints."

I've reviewed Encaustikos products previously. And I love the company and their products though I believe that they are looking to find solutions where no new solutions are needed. This pen set does have tips and a heat regulator and you'll find the appropriate temperatures for working with wax. The problem is that this is a modified wood burning set. My friends remind me that we're supposed to be guerrilla artists. I tell'm that I'm old. There are hot wax tools with some greater flexibility. High on my personal list is a great calligraphic/drawing tip which you dip into the wax and the well can be drawn with. I was excited about the calligraphic tip with reservoir but oopsie it doesn't fit. Nor did the other tips I purchased. So now one more item in the give-to-the-god-son box for him to use to write his name on the legs of his parents prairie style vintage furniture. But Encaustikos probably in attempt to meet the cost demands of artists, put together this guerrilla solution. I am usually about the clown car and not the Cadillac. I'm all about house paint and gasoline an scrap wood. But I am more interested in the making art and asking my own questions rather than fighting or working around tools. Keep looking through the Encaustikos products that are marvelous. But pass on this burner. Look for the competition and don't forget the tip with the longer lasting calligraphic well tip. Brilliant! This product is specific to woodburning and heats to 950 degrees. Encaustics have low melt and should not be over 150 degrees. This product is dangerous and burns holes in your work. It is NOT what wasw advertised as an encaustic pen and I was not only disappointed in the false advertising, but received no help in returning it or getting my m oney back. Color me one unhappy artist customer.
