When I first tried to use this platform, I thought it was defective because the black "teeth" on the bottom were missing and the platform wouldn't go through the device when the handle was turned. After much frustration and a little internet searching, I found that the platform works on pressure, not on the little gear teeth that the 4" platform works with. Place the 12" platform in the die cutting machine, put on your dies, paper, and cutting plate, then push the platform through until it won't go anymore. Now you should be able to use the handle to run the platform the rest of the way through. Good luck!

I really needed this item and was so glad to find that Amazon had one, since the mfg. has quit making this item. It was a necessary item in order to use the machine I had purchased.
