Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We have a lot of Playdoh sets, from the kids' favorite Breakfast Time Set to the dastardly-messy Octopus Playset, but this is easily the worst. With the increasingly complicated Playdoh systems of the past couple years, the problem for Playskool has been how to make the smaller pieces and presses work with the classic Playdoh recipe.
The solution is Playdoh Plus, a purple-canned, softer version of Playdoh, of which there are three cans included with this set. And that would be fine except the set also include two cans of regular Playdoh because the molds (purportedly) work better with Playdoh Plus and the presses with regular Playdoh. But you oughtn't mix them or the resulting mixture will be good for neither. Anyone with kids can already see where this is going to be a problem.
So when my otherwise-carefree 3yo and rules-ignoring 6yo played with the set I had to explain they shouldn't mix the two consistencies, and within 5 minutes (and here I'm being generous; I'm sure it happened earlier and that's when they worked up the courage to tell me) the deed was done. Exactly which children did Playskool think wouldn't mix the doughs? None I've met. The very need for rules-of-use on a creative toy is supremely stupid; Playskool's expectation that kids will follow them during right-brain playtime is corporate foolishness.
Fortunately there are better Playdoh sets that use just regular yellow-can Playdoh, so they'll work with your existing collection. Try the simple Scoops 'N Treats or the more bigger Sweet Shoppe for starters.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This toy has a lot going for it. It's durable, well constructed and has anything you need to build fun and interesting colorful Play Doh creations. The machine is easy to assemble. I has a press to extrude soft serve ice cream as well as a tuner that makes sprinkles. It comes with several cones, neatly served out in a handy cone dispenser, as well as a dispenser for the included ice cream cups. It also comes with a few spoons. All are stored nicely attached to the unit.
All over the machine are presses to make cookies, donuts, and other sweet treats as well.
It does come with several sample sizes of play-doh, including the New Play Doh Plus. It is softer and easier to extrude. Though not impossible to use older play doh in making ice cream, the play doh plus does work much better and is easier for small arms to work the machine.
Clean up is pretty simple as far as play doh goes. My son loved our rainy day game of playing Ice Cream Shoppe.
Kid tested, and approved by this father.
Best Deals for Play-Doh Perfect Twist Ice Cream Playset
The Play-Doh Perfect Twist Ice Cream comes with everything you need to create tons of fun ice cream treats, my favorite of course. For just about $20, you get the whole ice cream playset, five containers of Play-Doh, and lots of ice cream essentials. Whether you want to make a ice cream cone or sundae, both containers are available. I love the sprinkle making machine the best and the little cone dispenser! It is super simple to use, just fill this little mold and pop it in the machine then push down to dispense the "ice cream." As if all that is not enough, the whole machine is covered in little molds where you can make little Play-Doh candies or treats to top off your ice cream. There are so many molds I didn't even bother to count them all! This is also the first time I used Play-Doh Plus. There is less Play-Doh in the Plus containers but it is pretty realistic looking, which is perfect for creating food creations. I also noticed there was no Play-Doh smell, so if the smell bothered you then I'd suggest checking out Play-Doh Plus. As far as clean up goes, the set is pretty easy to clean. The only piece I had problem cleaning is the sprinkle machine but I just rinsed it with water and that worked perfectly. No batteries required either! Overall, for the price of around $20, I recommend this set for any child, it is seriously adorable!Honest reviews on Play-Doh Perfect Twist Ice Cream Playset
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It seemed like a fun concept, but didn't really amount to much for us. The main function of this is the ice cream maker but once you use this a few times, it kinda runs out of fun. There is also a sprinkle maker and some molds to go with the ice cream maker, but they are not anything special. This set comes with Playdoh Plus which is a smoother formula of Playdoh--try telling a 3 year old not to put the regular Playdoh inside, by the way. Our 3 year old got tired of this pretty quickly--maybe it would be better for older kids. We found this set to be underwhelming.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Play-Doh Perfect Twist Ice Cream Playset
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As far as Play-Doh playsets go, the Perfect Twist Ice Cream set is a good one. It basically consists of a large central part that dispenses the softer Play-Doh Plus compound soft-serve style courtesy of a lever that basically extrudes the compound downward. My daughter loves ice cream, so this was a no-brainer for her. She loves it, and when she asks to play "Play-Doh," this is the playset she's talking about. It comes with quite a few accessories and the entire playset is covered in molds that go with the ice cream motif. The only issue that I really have with the set is that you can't use standard Play-Doh with it. I know why this is the case, as the Play-Doh Plus is software and more "ice cream-like" which allows it to be extruded from the dispenser (although this takes a good amount of force), but it's almost impossible not to get the Plus mixed in with the standard stuff (especially when the "sprinkles" are made out of regular Play-Doh. The set really takes a good bit of supervision and assistance, as even the Plus compound can get stuck and need to be cleared out. The amount of pressure needed to put it through might also be a bit much for most children, and getting it to swirl like ice cream requires a controlled-level of force with one hand, and a steady one to hold the cone or ice cream dish correctly. It might have been better to go with a mechanical solution, one that would apply a uniform amount of force so that kids could use both hands to collect the "ice cream."
Despite the issue with the Plus compound and the way it's pushed out by the unit, this is a solid playset. My daughter has had a whole lot of fun with it, and at the end of the day, that's the most important thing to consider when you're talking about toys.
