It is exactly what it says, a starter pack for vinyl work "...if you've wanted to create vinyl art and haven't known where to start, this is the place"

A) 4 sheets of premium vinyl (9-inch by 24-inch of black, white, dark pink, leaf green): it would have been nice if it had more lengthy samples, but then again it's a starter pack.

B) 10-feet of premium transfer paper: nice to have for future projects as well

C) Silhouette hook & Silhouette scraper: These are pretty handy tools when working with vinyl, the hook will help you get those "negative" vinyl out of the way before applying transfer paper. And the scrapper helps you have the vinyl in its right place without air bubbles, it's not exceptionally required though as you can use any credit card like card for the same purpose, it's nice to have though :)

D) Exclusive download card good for 10 vinyl designs: This one entitles you to download 10 free vinyl designs, with text messages, house shape, frame shapes, a train, a tree branch and a couple more..

E) Idea booklet: This is a couple f pages that gives you the general idea, but you can find more resources online

F) The instructional DVD: This is simply a video on how to start :)

Over all, I'd say it's a good starter pack, would have been nice though if it was a little cheaper, and had more lengthy samples, thus the four stars :)

I bought this kit after purchasing the new Silhouette Cameo. I am a novice when it comes to vinyl. There was a lot of trial and error in the beginning with cutting depth. I have found that the Silhouette Vinyl is of much better quality than what I have found at hobby stores. My kit came with black, soft pink, and a lime green vinyl rolls. The transfer tape is very good compared to others I have used. I recommend buying this as it is a great deal and far less expensive than purchasing everything separately.

Not too much in the package, some vinyl, a DVD I have yet to watch, pretty much what I expected. Except...wait a minute...Mine was missing the scraper! Thus begins my tale of woe....errr..wait a minute. or not. Usually these experiences leave me annoyed, and frustrated. Often its "spend more money then its worth to ship x to us, prove your identity, and include a hair sample". Not here.

I emailed customer service to inform them I had 2 hooks, but no scraper thingy. Response "hey no problem send us you address and name, and serial number and we will ship one out. One problem-my came machine isn't here yet, so no serial number. I told them I would email it to them when it arrived.

So yeah normally thats...wait and wait, then send the serial number when you get your machine, then wait some more right? Nah, these guys said, "ah skip that then, just your name and addy and we will take care of you". i suspect they looked up my serial number from that since my machine was still in the mail.

This is what buying a product should feel like. When they mess up they take care of it.

Honest reviews on Silhouette Vinyl Starter Kit

I'm not incredibly talented at crafting, and the Silhouette was a splurge. I've been dipping my toes into the possibilities of the cutting machine and finally purchased this starter kit. If the price is right, the kit is a great value one can probably determine this by looking at the price for a hook, scraper, a full size roll of transfer paper and adding it together. There are "sample" pieces of 4 colors of vinyl, but not full rolls.

The demonstration video is borderline useless. I had to watch a few videos on YouTube to really get a feel for how things work. My first vinyl project turned out flawless (maybe because I read/re-read the instructions multiple times and watched other videos). I'm really excited to come up with new vinyl projects.

Two more points: (1) I think some crafters don't believe the "scraper" tool is worth buying, but I disagree. Although it is just a piece of molded plastic, I get much better results with it than an old credit card it is more sturdy and fits in your hand better. (2) This one is silly, but perhaps some users can relate: I like the box it came in. My office/scrapbook room/junk room gets pretty cluttered and these starter kit boxes are great to keep your Silhouette stuffs organized.

I have had nothing but fun with this machine thus far. Made some really cute things. The machine is so easy to use and with the optional software (that is VERY reasonably priced) I have been able to make my own designs. My daughters wedding is upcoming and we have some really neat things planned. I highly recommend this over the Cricut.
