Gave these 4 stars but really mean 4.5 stars. These are a four pencil set to 6B softness. The idea of using carbon pencils is get the dark tones without the sheen you get when using graphite. I guess the pencils are more "charcoal like" than graphite but without quite the messiness of pure charcoal. Do not expect to cleanly erase these carbon pencil lines...ain't gonna happen. Yeah, it will still produce residue, just carefully store your drawings.

If you want really great black pencils, this is it. When using graphite pencils, you can never really get super black and the harder you press to get dark the shinier it gets and it gives a glare and does not go dark enough. These do not glare or shine and give a nice deep dark black....perfect for the pupils of the eye dark highlights.
