Got these as a Christmas gift and I have been using them with no problems whatsoever. Other online art stores sell them at a discounted rate as well. Caran D'ache is one of the best brand names for Oil Pastels you can get. They are not too firm and not too soft. They are great for a beginner if you can afford them.

I should have suspected this from the low price. I had bought some Caran D'ache Neopastel Oil Pastels in a set of 16 from a brick and mortar store, and they are so superior to these it is incredible. The ones in this set of 48 are not oily and crumble into chunks at the slightest pressure. A person gets what they pay for....
