I just received and tried these new Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencils (a holiday gift to myself) and they produce the most brilliant colors, particularly if used on dark paper.
These pencils are soft enough to feel like I am using soft pastel sticks when I draw with them. This set I purchased came with a long tortillon for blending, an eraser, and a manual pencil sharpener.
Unlike the other two reviewers who gave these great pencils a 1-star rating, I was fully aware of what I was ordering and buying, and this is why they get a 5-star rating from me.

These pencils are smooth and clean. I always wanted to do pastels but didn't like my hands and nails getting chalky, these also allow me to do some real detail work. I am very happy with this purchase. Shippiing was fast!

Not only were these about 20% of the price for comparable number of items in small sets, but they are tougher so you don't waste any with breakage, and the pastels are quite different from what she had before more a true pastel rather than just faint true colors. She like them because they give her a greater range of tones to work with will definitely buy again when these run out a few years down the road.

Great pencils at a great price. Very good quality pastel pencils, love them all, very happy with my purchase, you can mix them with soft or wax pastels, looks great.
