I love this set. I bought it to paint my miniature wargaming models. Never used an airbrush before. Never even seen one up close. I unboxed and assembled everything without too much trouble. There are no instructions for that so you have to be a bit mechanically inclined to succeed. I mixed up some paint and base coated my first model within an hour. My only problem was that the thing was blasting out way too much paint for my little job. Well, I did some searching on the internet and found out I was running it at 40 psi and should have had it dialed back to 20 psi. I cut back the pressure and it's much more controllable.
Unfortunately I also found out in my research that for really fine work like I plan to do I need a gravity feed brush, whereas this is a bottom (siphon) feed. I found out siphon feed brushes need 15 to 20 psi to work, while gravity feed brushes run fine at 8 to 15 psi. The higher the pressure the more paint the thing throws out so detail work requires the lowest pressure you can work at.
Oh well. I still love this brush. I used to prime paint my miniatures with cans of spray paint. The results were often very bad runs, streaks, globs, just awful. With this airbrush I was able to put a perfectly even, very thin prime coat on my miniature in just a couple minutes. The best job of priming I've ever done! And that was with zero experience and working at double the pressure I should've been at.
I have a bunch models that need priming. Can't wait to get started!
Oh! And I ordered a nice gravity feed brush for the detail work. Once you have the basic setup you can just order new brushes and plug them in. This is a great starter package.
