It's a very simple but useful tool that can make curls, wire beads and split rings by wrapping the wire around the mandrel. The instructions are not very well pictured nor do they have clear precise instructions on how to keep the wire on the mandrel or from over lapping each other. However you can find many video tutorials on how to use a wire coiler/ wire gizmo and the premise is pretty much the same.
I found that you can hold the wire in your free hand near the mandrel and use it to keep the tension as you use the other hand to turn. The reason for only the 3 stars is the plastic mandrels of different shapes don't release the wire wrapping when you're done. I couldn't slide my work off of it and it was stuck. I ended up unwrapping it after loosing it didn't work. The wire ended up kinked up and having been worked on too much, the color came off and became useless.
I did try some cheap kids craft wire that seems to be wrapped in plastic coating and with a little looser wrap, the work did come off the mandrel easier. However with it being looser, the coil was twisted a few degrees with each turn. I got the original coiling gizmo economy deluxe as well and that works like a charm. I am keeping this as it is more portable and has the oval and triangular shape i really wanted. I just wished that it was all metal mandrels and had better instructions.
