I purchased these without research. I'm new to watercolor and I wanted more control over my drawings/paintings. So I purchased these watercolor pencils to venture into my bird drawings. I was disappointed in that once my drawings were finished and I added water to create a watercolor piece, the pencil didn't blend as well as I thought it should. I had mixed lighter colors with darker once with my pencil and the dark showed as pencil strokes instead of blending. It took a lot of pencil layers and water to get a look close to what I wanted. I may pass these down to my daughter and invest in a more watersoluable set.

I had hoped for nice creamy watercolor pencils but these are more like regular colored pencils.

This is my second time using a Sargent Art product, and I will not be making that mistake again. These watercolor pencils are crumbly, chalky, and have basically no color when used dry. One of the benefits of watercolor pencils is that you can use them either dry as color pencils or with water as watercolor pencils. Not so with these. Water must be added for almost any sign of color to be seen. What a waste.

They are more like normal color pencils ... not really watercolor. They are little bit hard. I was used to use caran d ache watercolor pencils that they were super soft....i thought all watercolor pencils should be soft.
