These Pebbles Chalks in 30 Pastel Shades were delivered quickly, in a nice little tin for storage. None of the chalks were cracked or broken. However, I do have a few beefs with the product. The presentation isn't nearly as nice as marketing images show. The chalk is a little shrunken looking. Maybe they pour the palette full and then they shrink as they dry? My other disappointment is that several of the shades seem to be identical, or indiscernibly close in color. For example, there seems to be 2 or 3 cakes of Olive Green, 2 Grass Green, 2 light green, 2 white, 2 almost identical light blue, and 2 almost identical tangerine-colored cakes. That brings the color number to more like 20 Pastel Shades, in my opinion.

As another reviewer mentioned, most of the shades are very VERY light. Which might be exactly what you want sometimes. But you will probably end up buying additional color sets. Some colors are so light that you cannot tell if they are even on the paper. (Maybe they are meant for black paper? I haven't tried that).

I've found (with this and all the craft store brands of blending chalks) that they do not easily transfer onto the applicator or to the paper. This was the first of several chalks I have tried, and I was so disappointed at how impossible it was to get any color onto the paper, that I almost sent them back. But then I tried scratching the surface of the chalk with a pointed tool, and was really very pleased with how much that helped pull up the color. I scratched just lightly, to release just the amount I thought I would use right then. This helps TREMENDOUSLY in getting color onto the page!

In comparison to other brands, the Pebbles brand are definitly softer, less dense than say Inkadinkadoo or EK Success Chalks. But I find them all about the same, when it comes to getting color on the page. The other brands are more pigmented, maybe. But Pebbles are good when you want a softer look. None of them are soft and creamy like the more expensive Pan Pastels, which are awesome, but expensive (about $5-6 PER Color!) I guess I was spoiled by using Pan Pastels first, and then trying to find a cheaper alternative.

The good thing about blending chalks is this:

1. They won't bleed through the cardstock or paper, ruining the next page in your journal.

2. They are great for backgrounds.

3. Best of All: All the chalks I've tried are ERASEABLE! You heard right! You can erase them with a just a plain ol' (clean) eraser, if you hate the way it looks, or you want to clear some whitespace for text. Now that's cool! I don't know any markers or paints that you can cleanly erase!

One last thing: I think the dense foam applicators & daubers sold at art & craft stores work much better than the powder puffs, or even eyeshadow applicators. I think the density of the foam is key.

Wow, I didn't realize I had so much to say about this little purchase! Hope you find it helpful.

This is a lovely set of chalks. I use them for coloring in stamped images for scrapbooking and card-making. The color is very subtle so if you want more vibrant colors, try the same set of chalks in the bright colors. The price is excellent; less expensive than the big crafts stores even with a coupon. You can't go wrong!

I have a ball jointed doll and I used these chalks for makeups, it's very pale and you build them up. My only complaint is that the wooden tool cracked, the hole was drilled off center for the metal piece. I used super glue to fix it but, other than that the actual pastels are nice.

These colors are so light, you can hardly see them. I wish I would have read the previous reviews. I thought they would be fine, but even on white paper, they do not show up. I would recommend getting the chalks with a bolder pallet.

I use these chalks all time in my card class. I love the tool and little cotton balls that are provided to use....they are very nice pigmented colors too!
