I was VERY surprised that a sewing machine could be budget-priced, yet have the features and stitch repertoire of a much more expensive machine. I have to say, if you are looking for a do-all machine and don't have megabucks to spend, this could be a very excellent choice.

Features:

Electronic controls

Seventy stitches

Six one-step buttonholes (automatic foot fits buttonhole to button.)

Top loading bobbin (I prefer this, easier for me to see)

Push button stitch choice (rather than knob)

Stretch stitches, ornamental stitches, utility stitches

Automatic pressure adjuster on pressure foot (for thin to thick fabrics)

Extra high foot lift (handy for quilting or doing thick layers of denin hemming, for example.)

Most of the time, if you want to buy a beginner-level sewing machine, you will not get automatic buttonholes nor electronic stitch choice. There are a LOT of stitches here, including quite a few ornamental embroidery-types stitches that are handy for children's clothing, bedding, housewares and quilting. This machine can handle twin needles (great for hemming and top stitching.) My only complaint is that it only comes with a minimal number of accessory feet, so you might have to spend extra to get a specialty foot you wish to have (such as a walking foot for quilting.)

Before buying this machine I used an older model of Brother Brand. When the Brother broke down I still wanted something reasonably basic but with a few more capabilities than the Brother had been able to do. I was in no way disappointed in the way this machine stitches and runs. The DVD that comes with it is very well done and gave lot's of good information and ideas. The only things about this machine that might take some getting used to is that the power cord and foot control are seperate whereas on my Brother machine they were all connected in one cord and the foot control is less sensitive than the Brother had ben and has some delays if I take my foot off it and then try to make it go again immediately. Those are not bad things but just something that I will have to get used to. Overall it is a very easy machine to use and it truly stitches beautifully and much better than my older machine.

This Singer was for my wife, to replace her ages-old machine. I don't know anything about using sewing machines, but I can tell you that since she got this she's been sewing up a storm! I asked her after she'd had it for a few days whether it sewed buttons on, since that's the one chore I always delegate to her. (OK, shoot me, I don't know how to do it!!) She told me no, then a few minutes later came running into the room to say that, yes, this machine even sewed buttons, not just button holes!

Anyway, I'm a happy camper because she's a happy camper. I wouldn't label my wife an expert seamstress, but she does make her own dresses, and often finds something at Marshall's or TJMaxx that needs an alteration to make it work, and she's great at doing that with this machine. The price was also hundreds of dollars less than others that we evaluated, and this item shipped with Amazon Prime.

I can tell you that now that she's had it for a month, she'd purchase it again. Oh, and lessons for this machine and how to use it are all over YouTube, so there are lots of tutorials to get you over most usage questions.

Honest reviews on SINGER 7256 Fashion Mate 70-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing

Some background on me....I'm a sewing machine hoarder! I probably own 20+ working machines of all ages and brands. I have machines from a 1901 working Singer treadle to two Featherweights to several (i.e., over 5) modern computerized sewing machines, so I know my way around a sewing machine and know the importance of a machine that is easy to use.

I teach sewing to a small group of 9-11 year old girls who have very little or no experience with a sewing machine, and i've purchased 8 (so far!) of these machines through Amazon.com. Every single machine arrives in perfect condition and runs beautifully!

This machine is very user friendly, and I have the girls up and running in no time at all! That's very important to a new sew-er because if there are problems with the machine, they will become frustrated right at the start and then could find sewing a chore instead of something fun. No such problem with this machine! My girls especially love the decorative stitches and how easy it is to switch from one to another with the computerized stitch choice panel. This machine has opened the door to my girls' creativity and is building the foundation for a life-long love of sewing and maybe even a way to add to their income in a few years as they sell what they make. They've been making gifts for people from the very beginning. I've even told them that they can sew their wedding dresses with this machine some day!

Another reason I initially chose this machine is the Singer 25 year warranty, something that you don't see in lower-priced sewing machines. But in the year and a half that I've been buying them and my girls have been putting their machines through their paces, I've never had one issue with any of the 8 that we have!

I HIGHLY recommend this machine! I'd give it 10 stars if I could! If anyone gets this machine and has problems with it, then it's most likely a fluke and should be returned. Or it could be something as simple as incorrect threading or bobbin winding. There is one part of the threading that takes a bit to learn, getting the thread in the correct place on the wire guide and how to lay the thread for the needle threader. A little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature. if anyone has problems with their Singer 7256, before you return it, feel free to email me and i'll see if i can talk you through the threading!

Happy sewing!

Rita

I have very little experience sewing and I love love love love this machine so far. It works fantastically! =) The tension is preset which makes all the difference in the world for beginners. It is adjustable, in case you actually know what you are doing. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. It even comes with a DVD to watch walking you through all the various things you might need to know. It is definitely worth the money.

Purchased these for a navy blue slim fit double breasted blazer and the buttons really pop! The American Eagle design is a small detail that makes a big difference as it adds an extra element of class that's very noticeable. I receive plenty of compliments and even all the ladies at my tailor shop raved about them. From looking at the picture I thought they'd have a cheesy brass look but not the case. They look more gold and feel very sturdy. Definitely worth the investment.

If you have a glass mat and get the required cutter, this oval cutter is amazing. Allows graduated cuts of 1/4" and works like a dream. The box is large, and the templates are big, but considering the versatility it seems a minor drawback. So excited to complete my project now! I also have the circle cutter, possibilities are endless now.

I have five da Vinci Pure Blue Squirrel brushes. (while I'm at it, I should mention that I have one Raphail, One Winsor Newton, and two Isabey Pure Squirrel brushes. (If I find one on sale, I pawn one of my grandkids to buy it). Truly, it is the Pure-Blue-Squirellishness of them that is most remarkable. I had been told they were worth the price and held more color (or water) than any other brush. I should, and will, measure the difference in capacity. But on sight, holding two brushes in a glass of water and then squeezing the water into empty paint pans, I was shocked to see a whole lot more water from these beautifully made Pure Blue Squirrel brushes. One interesting note: no matter how heavy the load of color in the bristles, they don't drip. Getting the color to flow requires touching the tip to a surface.

Aesthetics: As an artist, you'll benefit from the physical look and feel of da Vinci's Pure Blue Squirrel brushes. The handle shapes and lengths have a wonderful feel. All the brushes in this series have beautiful hand wound bindings, da Vinci 418-5 Pure Blue Squirrel Quill-Petit Gris Pur Watercolor Mop and high lacquer sheen and sloping shaped handles. Holding one in your hand is soooo nice.

I won't say that these brushes completely eliminate the need for a rigger, mainly because I don't have a broad enough experience to make such a statement. But I can tell you that I don't have to find a different brush to complete exquisitely tiny detail. The bristles come to an excellent point, and that point can hold a lot of color.

Let's see... what else? Oh! The way the brush bristles feel as you stroke it onto paper. I don't know how to explain the difference between this and sable or this and squirrel with most excellent synthetic fibers. It feels more flowey.

I've heard that they don't hold up as long as sable or synthetic/squirrel mixes. I don't know that to be true. Frankly, I don't care. Not that I'm rich. I have to save up to get these brushes. Makes them just that more a joy! Art is more than creating a product. It is being present for the creation, These brushes enrich that experience.

I wanted just a little pan of watercolors in neon colors for doodling and after coming up with nothing at the local craft stores, I just went ahead and ordered these. The watercolors are okay (they are truly kids' watercolorsnot a great consistency, not very blendable, etc.) but I'm shocked at how little there are of them! It's like someone just painted a thin coating of watercolor at the bottom of each little pan. I guess I'm used to the Crayola watercolors (still one of the best on the market!) because they actually give you a nice little brick of watercolor in each pan.

After using my single action airbrush, this took some getting used to. Adjusting the air and the paint at the same time has advantages over the single action. Also, having the paint container on the top allows for faster filling than on the bottom. I am just starting to learn how to do detail work but this airbrush will certainly do it. I tried my friend's $159 Badger airbrush and, while it is nice, does not do anything more than this one that I can tell.

I don't airbrush, but my husband does and this kit was for my son. My 14 year old son was able to get everything connected and start air brushing within 5 minutes. I also bought the quick connect and 6' hose that was recommended. My husband has a 25 year old air brush kit and he says it cost him almost a $100 for a similar one that I paid 1/2 the amount for. He was impressed with the quality and ease of use and cleaning. So far my son has used it to airbrush model cars and T-shirts (different paints of course). He has been able to keep it clean and has had no problems with anything in this kit. I highly recommend it for beginners.

This is my first airbrush. At this price I don't know why anyone would want to meddle with a single action airbrush first.

I'd say the learning curve is pretty easy for double action airbrushing; especially if you have any experience using canned spray paint. Starting with a dual action airbrush, particularly this one with its ability to use a wide range of paint types, will save you time and money.

I primarily use this with enamel paints and it has worked very well so far. Cleaning is simple enough and it comes with an assembly guide so disassembly is not to much of a concern.

It's not mentioned in the product description but there is a depth-stop-like screw on the rear of this brush that makes returning to the same paint flow volume very easy. It makes for a very nice surprise additional feature.

Good all around air brush, can't see anyone going wrong choosing this.

Honest reviews on Master Airbrush® Brand, Model G23 Multi-purpose Precision .3mm

I got two of these as my first airbrush. One did not work from the start with a poorly drilled air cap so it did not create the low pressure to suck the paint out. The other worked ok for a time, or so I thought, I rapidly outgrew it and decided to get a Iwata HP Plus and from the very first use I realized how different a class it was. Things that I did not notice such as irregular size droplets of paint compared to the uniformed and smooth spray pattern of a Iwata, huge difference in build quality etc my work looked instantly better!

The bottom line is, if this is as far as your budget stretches or just to see if you like airbrushing then you can make this airbrush work just fine, assuming you don't get a defective one like one of mine (I think QC is a issue with master). However they are made to a price and are nowhere near the build/spray quality of Iwata, Devilbiss etc if you can stretch your budget I would avoid this and go to a Iwata eclipse as you will avoid a lot of frustration and get finer lines to boot even with the HP-BCS .5mm. Also it will last you a lifetime, @ 1.5 years both my masters are long dead and my first Iwata is working like the day it arrived.

I have been watching this airbrush for months. It was a Master G23 model, a very well built model for its price. Now the photos have been changed to some generic model and the price, in a most bizarre fashion, has quadrupled. I notified Amzn and they said they'd correct the problem, but it is not corrected. The model shown in blue sponge is NOT the model the reviews are referring to.

You can not change the product without giving it a new item code as readers will be mislead into thinking the reviews are for the same product when they are not.

Having purchased these quilts for years, increasingly, in the last five (or more) years, there is never enough embroidery thread included to complete the kit. It is frequently not easy to match the thread (by purchasing additional thread at craft stores) on a project where the embroidery has already been started. Bucilla was once the standard of excellence. Unfortunately it has lost its quality.

This is a great quilt for a beginner the x's are large and the pattern is adorable....however..........I have done several of these as winter project and there is always plenty of thread included in the kits. with this kit, I have already run out of two colors I sorted the threads beforehand and counted to make sure which color was which and there just simply wan't enough of the rose or one of the yellows included to do this project. I was able to match the colrs using my own thread, but it's just stupid that they don't include enough. They include a ton of dark green thread and you only need1-2 strands. There is also a discrepance between the photo of the blanket and the instructions. The photo clearly shows teal for one of the flower stems and the instructions show bright green. I am going with the photo, if there is enough teal thread to do it. Overall, very cute, but frustrating I am pretty sure that I will run out of at least one more color before this is completed.

I use Cat Bhordi's method of sock knitting on 2 circular needles (once you try it, you'll never go back to double points) and these work really well for that purpose. I have used them on 2 pairs of socks. The needles are really thin, so one has bent a bit, but I think that's because I am really unkind to them and carry them around in bags which have too little space for knitting.

I use either superwash merino or merino/nylon 75/25 blend and I've found that both work well for these needles, the yarn does not slide off too fast or too slow.

I've now added a shawl to my repertoire and can testify that these work well for lace knitting, also.

I started knitting last year. I've been using bamboo straight and circular types. I am considering to buy the

Addi Click set and thought I would try the lace point to see if I would want that set. This circular needle is awesome!!

Just love the 'slick' , more pointed brass needles! I think these will be wonderful for any project, not just lace.

The one and only downside I can think of is that if you like to knit in the sunshine, you will have to waer sunglasses using these shiny metal needles.

This is a great kit for beginners. It was my first attempt at needlepoint and I really enjoyed it. I had exactly as much thread as I needed with just a bit to spare in a few colors. It is really nice with the canvas pre printed with colors. It made doing the project much easier. The instructions for how to stitch could have been a little better but they did the trick none the less. There's always google...

Best Deals for Dimensions Needlecrafts Needlepoint, Koi Pond

This was the first time I bought a kit from Dimensions and like many reviewers I was not disappointed. I thought it was cross-stitch when purchasing but it is continental stitch. The instruction was easy and I found out it to be more easier then cross stitch. Only difficulty I found was that some colors like different shades of oranges on the fish is little difficult to differentiate. I did it leisurely so it took me around 10 days. I would definitely recommend it. Would be awesome for beginners !!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm honestly a bit surprised by all the 5 star reviews, and I'm sure I'm risking some negative comments & unhelpful votes but I'm going to give you my honest opinion on this machine and let you decide what is and isn't important for you in a machine.

I'm not new to paper crafting. I own a Sizzix Big Shot, A Cricut Expression & Mini, and a Silhouette Cameo. I won't like that once I bought the Cameo Silhouette Cameo Starter Kit Bundle Cutter the rest of my machines got pretty dusty except for my Big Shot Sizzix 655268 Big Shot Cutting-and-Embossing Roller-Style Machine which I use for embossing all the time. The electric machines might not be able to cut all the materials that the manual machines like the Fuse can cut and they can't stamp/letterpress at all but honestly how often do you need that ability?

I think the fuse concept is great, it works exactly as advertised and right out of the box it's easy to understand and start using. My "issues" with it are simply based on value. You get one die & two letterpress plates with this very expensive machine. It's very well made, it's huge & heavy but does fold up nice and small for storage or transport (well I'm not sure on the transport part, it is really heavy). That's it though. The dies are expensive and limited, at this point they don't even offer anything that takes advantage of the larger size. I actually would use this to replace my Big Shot IF it came with the adapter set, or if that set was priced lower. It's anywhere from $50 to $100 depending where you shop... WHAT?!?! I can use my Cameo software to make a mat from any stamp I own, cut out the mat/shape with the Cameo and then stamp it (or even do a print and cut after scanning my stamps to make them digital). I'll lose a bit of the texture you'd get from using this machine but again, I'd have endless options. The real deal breaker for me though was that I tried and I CAN use the dies for the Fuse in my Big Shot and they work perfectly (without any fancy adapter I might add). So if you love the idea of a letterpress/die combo and already own a Big Shot you have no need for this machine unless they eventually come out with larger dies and you want those too.

In conclusion it's a solid machine that does exactly what it advertises. It's well made and I suspect will last and last, but unless you have a very specific reason for wanting something this large and heavy, and IMO limited, I just think there are better options out there that are a better value. I'll upload some photos in a bit showing that I was actually able to cut balsa wood with it (but I wouldn't recommend trying that LOL) and showing the results of using the dies in my Big Shot.

This is a great machine! I was able to use it right out of the box, it took a few minutes to read the instructions and i was off and running. More expansion packs available Fuse Medium Design Plate Expansion Pack 4/Pkg-Tag, Fuse Medium Design Plate Expansion Pack 4/Pkg-Marquis

Best Deals for Fiskars 100770-1001 Fuse Die Cut and Letterpress, Starter Set

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program If your looking for a good die cutting machine for home use, this one is one of the best out there.

It's built sturdily. Don't let the plastic fool you. This is a heavy, well built machine, in fact, it's more than 20 lbs. While that doesn't make it convenient for crop nights, it does make for a machine that can cut through 3 oz leather, aluminum can sheets (cut off top and bottom, then cut open and straighten), cork, foam and cereal box cardboard fairly easily. Fabric, paper and other lighter materials are a complete breeze. I love that it handles so many materials well which allows for creative re-use.

Limited number of dies available at this point for this machine. The die that came with mine is a scalloped circle with 2 plates for debossing or letterpress. One is a bird that says thank you, the other is a to-from for easy gift tags. If you are going to get this machine, I recommend getting the adapter kit as well. The adapter kit comes with 3 shims, a rubber cutting mat, top plate and bottom plate and is fairly large. It won't do extra long dies but will do almost everything else. Using the adapter kit, you can use the other major companies dies and embossing plates to really expand the potential of the machine.

The dies that are available specifically for the Fuse are wonderful, and you may well want to collect them all. The design sets come with dies and letterpress plates, the expansion packs are letterpress plates for dies you already have. The design sets and expansion sets allow you to-

die cut (die only)

die cut+letter press (die, plate + ink)

die cut+ deboss (die, plate)

deboss (plate only)

letterpress (plate + ink)

It won't slip around when it's set up on a table or desk top, but does take up a fair amount of space when it's open to use. The latches on it all close very securely, which is nice. The unit has a small compartment to hold a couple smaller dies, embossing folders, or ink pads. The whole machine folds up well for keeping it out of your way when you're not using it.

I'm having a blast with this. I love that I can use other companies dies, embossing folders and letter press plates with it, and love how well it works.

Honest reviews on Fiskars 100770-1001 Fuse Die Cut and Letterpress, Starter Set

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've long been a fan of Fiskars lawn care products and of course, scissors for sewing but wasn't sure what to expect from this Fuse Die Cut and Letterpress starter set. Unlike many other reviewers, I wanted to use this for sewing rather than scrapbooking and there tends to be a lot of variability in these machines when used for fabric.

The first thing you will notice is that this is a heavy little bugger! Frankly, I was rather surprised by the weight of the machine. I'm not 100% sure what actually weighs so much since most of the machine seems to be plastic but apparently there is a lot more than what meets the eye. The machine is designed to fold-up into a small suitcase sized self contained unit with a handle built in. The design is both smart and space saving as well as ergonimic.

Once opened (with the snap of 2 handles), it speads open and is basically ready to use. There is a small storage space which is ample for the 2 sample templates and plates included but will unlikely suffice for long. Directions are clear and easy to read. There are several different ways to use the machine and in order to review it, I opted to try it out on both paper and fabric despite the fact that my main interest is in using it for fabric. According to the instructions, the machine may actually be used on other materials as well including balsam or other thin materials.

To begin, I opted to try it out on a heavy paper about a 90 weight. Simply stack, put the paper inside and roll through. It takes literally just a few seconds and made a perfect cut with embossing. Next, I tried the same on a piece of cotton fabric just to see how it would work...I was stunned at how nicely it handled the fabric. The hand crank is easy to operate, doesn't require excessive force whatsoever and makes a very nice cut the first time through.

Now, this is a starter set and wanting to use it for fabric, I'm anxious to get the larger additional plates and die etc enhancements. According to the manual, this will accept other template die from other manufacturers (a very nice touch) with the add-on plates. Unfortunately, at this time Amazon has a limited number of ancillary products for this machine. However, there are plenty on eBay and other areas to be found.

For those that enjoy quilting or other fabric based designs, take a look at this machine. Very easy to use, much faster than doing it by hand and more consistent results. Love the ability to get standardized results while still changing out color of fabric in only a fraction of the time. Excellent addition to the sewing room with the added benefit of being a useful item for those that enjoy scrapbooking and/or other crafts.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program If you're familiar with the " Accuquilt Go" system this works on the same principal: Sandwich the die, materials and mat and crank through the press. This system cuts a bigger selection of materials. Cork, felt, metal, wood veneer and other craft materials.

The system comes with one die ( a 4 inch scalloped circle) and two letterpress units which read "thank you" and "to......from...." and a fabric inking pad (the recommended type) . Be prepared to make a big investment in "design sets" because once you see them you will want them all. Amazon has a good selection and I have seen "sets" and "collections" on ebay. You can buy expansion sets which are basically letterpress units which fit the design unit. You can use dies from other systems if you buy the adapter kit (about $10).

The system is heavy with rubber feet which keeps it from slipping around when you use it but it folds up to a compact size and has a very comfortable handle. There is a storage compartment which will hold about two die sets and a few of your supplies. The bed of the system is 12 inches wide. The gear ratio makes the handle easier to turn than on most systems and it folds compactly.

You can use at least five techniques depending on how you stack the "sandwich":

1.Die, material and mat only to cut a die-cut shape.

2.Die, material, inked letterpress and mat for printed die-cut shape.

3.Die,material, letterpress and mat for letter-pressed die-cut shape.

4.Inked letterpress , material and mat for printed , embossed material.

5.un-inked letterpress, material and mat for embossed design only.

The only negative I can find is the price **Gasp** but it is comparable to other machines of this type and I think the portability and other features make it a much better choice. It's still not too late to hint for Christmas.
